Adam Poultney Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Given that I made the initial suggestion to have a second round, I feel obligated to make an entry! Oh no.... anyway! I'm sure I'll find time between exam prep. I'll be digging into this pile of plastic from Beacon Models. I'll probably do the Bf109E-7/Trop. In last year's Christmas Blitzbuild I did one of these. It's a great little kit, ideally suited to blitzbuilding. 15
Tim R-T-C Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 I was considering the pink Spitfire for one of the Blitzbuilds - definitely the easiest paint job (once you decide what shade of pink you need...)

ModelingEdmontonian Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 I'm excited to watch whatever choice you make!
Mjwomack Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Went off to browse the rest of the range, some lovely buildings in there!

Hockeyboy76 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Looking forward to seeing how good these kits are 1

Adam Poultney Posted December 31, 2024 Author Posted December 31, 2024 With understably few parts for the interior, the cockpit didn't take long. The fuselage halves are together and I've added the fairing for a 250kg bomb to the wings 10
Adam Poultney Posted December 31, 2024 Author Posted December 31, 2024 it's looking more like a 109 now! I used the masks included in the boxed E-3/4 kit. No way I want to mask canopies in this scale! 9
Adam Poultney Posted December 31, 2024 Author Posted December 31, 2024 All parts ready for an evening painting blitz 9
PHIL B Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Nice work Adam. Even just placing those canopy masks looks like brain surgery to me. Phil. 1

Certainly an accurate assessment! My advice was to include masks in all releases. I'll be holding off on building any without masks until they're available separately 1
Adam Poultney Posted December 31, 2024 Author Posted December 31, 2024 This particular 109 had mismatched wings. Once it's finished it'll look interesting, but the disadvantage for a blitzbuild is that I'm painting the camo twice! 11

I have a brace of Sweet's Hurricanes which have been shelved due to my refusal to mask their canopies!
Adam Poultney Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 Plenty of progress taking us into the new year! The majority of the paint work is done. I'll be doing the gloss coat for decals next. 8
Adam Poultney Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 I'm going to leave this for tonight now. I'll aim to get it finished in the morning. I've started on the decals. They are fantastic quality, being produced by Cartograf. I'm particularly impressed that the tail band fits perfectly- usually I expect these to be troublesome so I prefer, in general, to paint them. I noticed on the paint guide that the band is absent in the top and bottom profiles, but the decal fits all the way around. I'm mildly amused that this slipped past proof reading given that I'm in the proof reading discord! Oh well, minor details. The swastika is in two pieces. I don't like the way it's split, I'd prefer straight down the middle. The way they are split, you should apply one part, let it set, then do the other. The aircraft code decals for the fuselage overlap the white band, so those will be left until tomorrow as well. 11
wanders_up_the_wrekin Posted January 1 Posted January 1 That's some impressive achievement Adam - no less than 6 colours in the camo scheme, and all in one day and in 1/144. Hats off to you!
Adam Poultney Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 Morning all, I slept in a little longer than intended. With only an hour to go until the 24 hour mark, I've completed the decals. 8
Adam Poultney Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 And at the 24 hour mark, give or take a few minutes, it's done. For a sense of scale: 8
