I hope he has good engines, or can get them from Germany or Italy, as all ex RAF jets now have to have their engines made unusable. They did this after Rolls Royce were unhappy that we got our Jaguar into re heat condition. Don't understand why as the Lightnings and Buccs ran way before we did it.

Also will not get any help from Martin Baker at all. Not even literature.

There is at least one operable EJ200 in civilian hands as the Bloodhound SSC World Land Speed Record contender uses one (they may have more than one?). I guess support may depend on how much money and good publicity is involved? Having said that I am not really surprised that Eurojet and MB are reluctant to support civilian operators.

EJ200 is Typhoon engine borrowed from RAF and I believe that is back with them since the project is stalled. RB199 is Tornado engine.

I'm sure with the money and contacts Mr Isaacman has he will not struggle to get engines, ejection seat parts, or literature....

Absolutely, a bit of a senile moment there. Trained on the RB199, you'd think I would remember the difference lol.

So what does Art Nalls do with his Sea Harrier....its got a pegasus (and before anyone asks an AV8B donkey wont fit and he has an ejection seat

Wow !  Ignoring the technical challenges, which can probably be dealt with under USA's 'experimental ' rules  with abit of assistamce and some 'reverse engineering' if necessary, that's got to be a  very high cost, and high risk exercise.

He bought spares, I believe he has 3 Sea Harriers. These were bought/sold before RR brought in their ban.  We, as an accredited museum, would need to source spares from wherever, and should we need parts to run the engines, we would need to source them very carefully. The recent batch of Jaguars released from Cosford to museums have a blanket ban on any power to be put to them after re-assembly.  We could only trade parts from Adours disposed of prior to the ban. We were fortunate in getting our airframe and engines from Everetts, who are about 300 yards across the airfield from our HAS. They bought the surplus Jag fleet over a decade ago, some going to museums, and the remainder stripped for spares for the Indian Air Force. We have several MB seats, all de activated, for static display or in our exhibits. We cannot get any technical help from MB - they will only deal with customers at Govt or Forces level.

I can only state what I know to be the case. How other individuals with deep pockets function is up to them.

Incidentally if you have a Pegasus 103 in running condition, we have a complete taxiable airframe to put it in. We can get and install a 106, but it needs other expensive parts to plumb it into a GR3.

This sounds like a comment worth putting on something like Secretprojects.com forum. Plenty of ex Defense peeps on there who will no doubt have the right sort of contacts.

He has fitted a Stencel SJU-3/A seat from an AV-8A Harrier. MB were totally bypassed. Apparently he prefers the Stensel seat to the MB Mk10 seat.

I did wonder ...im sure the clearance process with the FAA is good enough 👍

"the certification of the jet will ultimately be determined by “long-lead items like the egress system pyro,” referring to the rocket motors on the ejection seat"

Good grief. Sounds like far too many lawyers have far too much infleunce on these companies today.  Desperately risk averse, except where legal feees are concerned ? Very sad.  So much for UK engineering history.

Another interesting comment from Mr Isaacman, is that perhaps an F-14 can now become airworthy for the Heratige flight. (Be still my beating heart!)

Since Iran is retiring their fleet, changes are afoot?? Hopefully.

Wern"t they all made un-airworthy by law? I fear they have some serious issues now...

But wouldbe great 😉

If Elon can buy his way into the workings of a Presidency, then I'm sure another Billionaire can arrange to have a personal F-14.

Debateable, as any aircraft donated to a museum is to be made "unflyable".

However, a few trades/deals have been made releasing aircraft to new owners for flight (after exctensive rebuilding!).

There are none in the boneyard, so either an example from a museum or on a pole... OR getting one out of Iran somehow.
