I must admit,I like the old Revell 727 kit more than its Airfix counterpart.

I built quite a number over the years and this one is the last from my stash.

Except replacing the cockpit with a Zvezda 737 canopy, the wheels with resin wheels from Brengun and new front gear doors made from plasticcard,it was build oob.

The decals are from classic airliners.

I had to paint the tail myself, using only the logo from the decal sheet. The large decals for the tail are impossible to use to get a good result.

Masking the front was a bit tricky but the rest went smooth.

Painted entirely with Gunze paints.

Dan Air's 727-100s where a bit different from the series aircraft,as the British authorities demanded additional passenger doors at the back.

Usually the 727-100s had no doors at the back.

Cheers,

Alex

That's really fantastic!  So well accomplished, and you were right to sacrifice a Zvezda kit to make this a stunning beauty.  It's the very subject I'd like to create in 1/72 after BPK releases theirs.  Keeping my fingers crossed on that eventuality.

Great job Alex 👍👍

Matching the red must have been a barrel of fun? (Speaking from bitter experience).

I'm looking forward to the CRM "-100" next year :yahoo:

Another fine piece of modelling from your never ending production line there Alex. A great choice of livery and very well executed. I know what it feels like to have a tail decal that leaves you having to rework and paint the majority of whats needed up the back end - its happened to me in the past and I think its about to happen to me once again on my present build. Decals too transparent ....

Beautiful model and lovely curves

Lovely result Alex. Like you I prefer the Revell kit to the Airfix one although it does still have its faults. Let's hope CRM follow through with their plan to produce a new 727-100 kit. Their 727-200 is stunning.

No need to sacrifice the whole kit. The Zvezda 737s come with two cockpit sections (with and without "eyebrows") so you will always have a spare!

Wow, the Zvezda Cab transplant really does wonders for the looks of that model!! At the rate i'm going, CRM will have a 727-100 out before i can get my Revell kit done.

Simply stated: I love it!

Actually,I only took one of the two provided canopies from the Zvezda kit.

For every Zvezda 737,there is one canopy for the spares box.

Thank you very much Mike.

It was not tricky at all, matching the red.

Revell' silk red 330 is a perfectly good match. After gloss coating,it looks very close to the decals.

Very nice build  and a sad memory for me. I was working that day in the Crew Records Department and the CAA - the Flight Ops Inspector. Roger? Phillips, had just said his goodbyes as he was moving on - pounced on me and my team for all the flying and training records of the crew involved. The office then became the incident room with multiple old style phones jacked in to consoles….
