Michael Morris Posted November 11 Posted November 11 Hi I'm trying to identify the flat bed van/small American truck. The picture is a still from a film shot in 1959. Thanks
Marco F. Posted November 11 Posted November 11 A little bit hard to identifiy...but I guess it's a Chevy...a 3100 upwards from the 50' But i'm don't know if my advice is right....😇 If I'm right you can look for the AMT kit... Marco F
dnl42 Posted November 11 Posted November 11 That's a Mercury capsule? Google tells me the tare weight was 2500 lbs. 31 minutes ago, Marco F. said: A little bit hard to identifiy...but I guess it's a Chevy...a 3100 upwards from the 50' I took a quick look, and that's probably a good guess. Ford didn't have split windshield. Here's an article with some info on the 3100 series...
Rob G Posted November 11 Posted November 11 Just Googling around - it seems that the Mercury capsule was initially transported on the back of a flatbed, with a mattress for padding. https://www.reddit.com/r/space/comments/pgvkf/nasas_1st_mercury_capsule_being_transported_to/ The truck would appear to be one of the Advance Design series (1947-53), in medium duty form; note the dual rear wheels. The specifics I leave to the Chevy truck cognisti.
Michael Morris Posted November 12 Author Posted November 12 Thanks. No kits available, but there are cheap diecast models that could be adapted? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284902824945?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=bhSK4HrCS7u&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=TIboUPieR1q&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Or even better I could 3d print one Look what I found on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1718773817/chevy-3100-pickup1951-truckready-to?ref=share_v4_lx
Six97s Posted November 12 Posted November 12 (edited) It's a '48 '47-'53 Chevy 4400, 161" wheelbase. The cab was the same as on the 3100 series pickups, but the front wheel openings were much larger to accommodate the 20" wheels. Edited November 12 by Six97s

There is 3d print file for a 4400 too 😁 https://cults3d.com/:165095

bootneck Posted November 12 Posted November 12 That's possibly FDM printing, doing it with liquid resin should be a lot smoother. I have downloaded a few from Cults3D and they print fine, especially for free or as little as 50p. You gets what you pays for though. Mike

SnøMotion Posted November 18 Posted November 18 The model is very low poly, though. Reminds me of origami
