Adam Poultney Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Here's an idea for a group build covering a wide range of subjects. Final Days Group Build: This is a group build focusing on the end of a type's service life. Any subject that can fit into the following categories is eligible, whether that's military or civvy, with wings, tracks or wheels: Final days in service (eg 1957 Spitfire PR.XIX, 1945 Bf109K-4, 2006 Canberra PR.9) Final main-line variants (eg Spitfire Mk.24, Victor K2, 747-8) Post-service roles (eg various water bombers) These categories are a little open to interpretation, justify your choices if needed. Interested members: @Adam Poultneyme! @Corsairfoxfouruncle @Chrisj2003 @Marklo @2996 Victor 3

Chrisj2003 Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 @Adam Poultney interesting idea, so would you include the last in service examples? Eg the Dutch specially marked one/some F-16s for out of service the other week? Or the last Japanese F-4 the other year? Chris
2996 Victor Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Sign me up for this please, Adam! Not sure what my choice would be, but most probably a WWII type in its' dotage. Maybe a Gladiator as a Met Flight aeroplane, or something as a crop duster, like a Lysander in Canada. Cheers, Mark 1

Marklo Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Interesting, I’m sure I could find something. My first thought is that Renault FT still in service in Afghanistan in the eighties… 1
Toryu Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 I'm thinking about a Ki-51 'Sonia' with surrender markings that was used as a hack after the armistice. That OK? Then sign me up, please. Cheers, Michael 1
franky boy Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 I’ll be up for this one Adam. Sounds like a good opportunity for a bit of weathering to. Please stick me on the list. Thanks James
bootneck Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Would ex-military subjects, re-purposed after being stricken off charge and used for commercial purposes be accepted? If so, then I would like to join. I have a real interest in converting afv kits into commercial vehicles and this GB could be just the thing for me. cheers, Mike 2
ModelingEdmontonian Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 I have a Hawker Hurricane Mk V kit which seems to fit. Sign me up. 1
zebra Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Sounds interesting. I could build something from a post-service role. Sign me up. How about something that's finished its primary operational role and been relegated to second line duties? For example a Meteor or Canberra target tug.
Mig Eater Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 I have the Chilean and Argentina Sherman tanks in my to do list, both countries used heavy modified versions of the Sherman up until the 2000's. 1
Courageous Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 A few subjects to choose from, add me please. Stuart
Captain Glumbo Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 (edited) I've been trying to find/bid/buy the last flying Avro Vulcan XH558. If can get it in time count me in The Airfix model that is lol Edited December 8, 2024 by Captain Glumbo 1

If can get it in time count me in The Airfix model that is lol The new-tool Airfix kit can be completed as XH558, but you will need to use the Olympus 200 tailpipes (included in the kit) and delete (not fit) the AAR probe, ECM cooling pack duct and TFR radome. There are four small protrusions on the engine access doors (cooling air in/outlets?) underneath that also need to come off. @Adam Poultney did quite a comprehensive run down on differences between Vulcans and if you can get hold of a copy "The Vulcan B.2 from a different angle" is well worth it. 1 1
Colin W Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Lots of target tugs in the stash so count me in for this. 1
