Lots of other things which I have yet to get my head around :rage:

While I remember I recommend getting a copy of the Wingleader photo archive 23 on the Manchester, plus Warpaint 103 which has 1/72nd scale drawings which are helpful if perhaps not 100% in all details.

For my build I’m investigating ways to get the various stencil markings reproduced. They’re essentially the same as the Lancaster but in light grey/white rather than red as the Airfix transfers have them. Still working on that.

Wise words Heather - thank you. I shall probably duplicate what's on Airfix sheet and use a combination of printed decals and cut stencils as appropriate

Hi All,

You can see that I've done some early work on modelling the business end of the Vulture:

Vulture-Early-Iso.png

Vulture-Early-Side.png

You can see that I've added in a couple of panel lines (these are 0.2mm circles swept around a guide curve which was projected onto the relevant surface from a sketch). The radiators still require some finesse, but once I have the kit (and thus correct wing profile) I can then start modelling the rear portion of the nacelle,

Thanks for looking,

Roger

How times have moved on.

I have a vintage Airfix Annual for Modellers from the early 70s featuring a Manchester conversion using balsa wood carved to shape and sealed with dope and talc.

Ooooooo nice work Roger.  Looks good on screen.

Thanks Chris - I've made some progress with the rear of the nacelle, which is a bit more complex!

And no less valid a path to the same result!

Hi All,

Some progress with the Vulture! I think I've now got the basic shape reasonably accurate:

Vulture-Iso.png

Vulture-Side.png

The intersection with the wing I will sort out once I have the profile. I'm considering incorporating the upper section into the wing itself but have yet to figure that out - may require a couple of test prints. You may also note that I've left the rear end of the nacelle dangling. As on the Lanc this section was incorporated with the flap, so I shall replicate this detail (possibly with a view to having the flaps extended). Note also that the panel lines have temporarily disappeared, as victims of the overall accuracy of the profile. They shall return,

Thanks for looking,

Roger

Chris

Careful  - that could stick! 🤣

Hi All,

Before I disappeared too far down a panel line rabbit hole, I thought I'd throw a few on and then export an STL file just to check out the lines themselves. Here's the STL file opened in Chitubox, which is the slicing software I use:

Vulture-Panel-Lines.png

I reckon those should come out nicely and don't look overcooked for 1:72? I can now continue to add detail - radiators, oil coolers, exhausts etc. - this is fun!

Thanks for looking,

Roger

By the way, if anyone is looking for a more detailed tutorial on applying panel lines there's a great one here:

Hi All,

Thinking ahead to the interior build, I wondered about the bomb sight fitted to the Manchester? My money is on the Mk.IX Wimperis:

Course-Setting-Bomb-Sight-Mk-IXA-stowed.

Any other information gratefully received,

Cheers,

Roger

That is just the thing I was thinking about asking you.  I’m no fan of panel lines on 1:72 scale models but there are a couple of lines that should feature on my Canberra forward fuselage replacement.

Looking just fabulous Roger and although you're putting in lots of time and effort here, I’m also hoping it may entice some mainstream manufacturer to finally produce an OOB Manchester kit.

Cheers and all the best.. Dave

Much obliged Dave! If they do not, I may make any successful results available to this discerning community (Happy to entertain trial build candidates) 🤩

Happy to oblige Roger and would be willing to clear the workbench to get started on a Manchester.

That's all looking brilliant.

This is going to be fairly spectacular.

It's all Dark Magic, of course.

Shouldn't the name change be DunnyBrasco though. :D

Cheers,

Alistair

Hi All,

Some progress on the Vulture! I found this rather lovely picture, which shows all sorts of details on the Vulture:

Vulture-detail.jpg

From this I was able to knock together an exhaust model:

Vulture-Exhaust.png

I spent a while fluffing around trying to bed the base into the nacelle, until I figured out that I could surface-mount it just as easily. You can see the location peg on the underside, which will fit a corresponding 'ole on the nacelle. I can therefore have a non-handed, single component for all four positions - nice 🤩.

In other news, I have confirmed that the Manchester was fitted as standard with the Mk.IX CSBS (Course Setting Bomb Sight) at this stage of the campaign. The later Mk.XIV was evaluated on a single aircraft, but only introduced in volume on the Lancaster. I shall therefore add a Mk.IX to the list of items to be designed and printed. Thanks very much to @Shep65 and @T-21 who provided the vital nuggets of information over in the WWII questions thread. Here it is for anyone interested:

Thanks for looking,

Roger
