eng Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Just a couple of shots of recently completed Zvezda B757-200, using @26Decals wonderful sheet for G-CPET in its retirement scheme. The kit is a pleasure to build although I had a bit of damage to the top of one of the main gear legs that required a minor repair with a section of plasticard (all my kits in the stash have the same damage, I suspect its the way the sprues were packed). I'd initially sprayed Tamiya Gloss White for the upper surface colour but it sat on the shelf of doom for quite some time as something just didn't look right. I eventually re-masked the demarcation line and the wings before resorting to the trusty Halfords Appliance White, and no further issues! I need to get some better photo's at some point and the kit is still lacking some VHF antenna's that I'll fabricate from thin plasticard. As its a retirement scheme I had not applied any weathering but feel the wings need just a little bit of wear n tear around the control surfaces so I may still do this. First couple of photo's were taken during decaling and final assembly. Hope you like it, I've a real soft spot for the 757 and have plenty more BA builds in the pipeline... Eng 43 1
Skodadriver Posted November 7 Posted November 7 She's looking great Eng. Out of interest what blue did you use? Dave G 1
Alan P Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Very very nice indeed, looks neat as a pin 👍 Those were the days, eh? 1
jonf45 Posted November 8 Posted November 8 Absolutely stunning, great scheme and great build The paint colours look absolutely spot on to me too, fantastic 1
Back in the Saddle Posted November 8 Posted November 8 Stunning - and also the second Negus 757 I’ve seen on this section in two days; they are clearly very popular! 1

It possibly could have done with being a tad darker but in 1/144 figured I'd get away with it. It looks ok I think. Eng 1 1

So many awesome jump seat trips home to Glasgow on those. Best one was with a Capt who's been a family friend for years, I still see him regularly now he's retired. A lightly loaded jet (70 pax) with the ETOPS E4's, lunchtime departure from LHR off 09R towards Hatton Cross and he said before we pushed back "have you ever experienced a full power take-off?".... "No" was my reply. Oh my god, we were airborne so quickly and that thing just kept climbing, absolutely effortlessly as those RB211's just purred. I was gobsmacked at the height we'd achieved by the time we passed over the tube station and started a left turn to the North, could barely pull myself forward in the seat. Epic, really miss them. Appreciate all the kind comments Eng

It did look nice in that scheme, thinking an early Landor bird next, or possibly one of the two Glasgow based ETOPS machines G-BPEC/G-BPEE. Eng 1

Eng That reminds me of my first ride on a 757 shortly after they arrived on the GLA-LHR shuttle - mid morning flight, light load and a crew obviously wanting a bit of fun. I have always kicked myself for not timing the takeoff roll but let's just say we rotated in a fraction of the time a Trident 3B would have taken and went up like the proverbial rocket ship. The raw power was absolutely awesome and I can still remember the sensation of being tipped back in my seat. A big bonus (at least for me) was the absence of the noise abatement procedure which I hated because it always made me think of Papa India. I loved flying on the 757 and I still can't get my head round the idea that it's now part of history. Dave G 2 1
Bedders Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Very nice. Pretty thing the 757 and you've made a great job of it with this scheme. Shame they've gone now. 1

I remember repositioning an empty 757 from LHR-LGW many years ago. No passengers, not much fuel and levelling off at 6000' (over a mile high!) almost still inside the LHR perimeter fence. They don't make them like that anymore, as any 787 pilot will attest!😁 1 1
SAT69 Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Beautiful model of one of the most beautiful jet airliners ever built. Congratulations! 1
Viking Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Lovely 757, glad that it made it off the shelf of doom and turned out so well. You can never have enough 757's, I look forward to your next one! Cheers John 1 1
Alex1978 Posted November 10 Posted November 10 What a beauty Eng. The 757 is such an elegant aircraft and in the Negus livery she sure looks pretty. I recently finished another couple of my large Zvezda 757 stock (12 examples) ,among them one in Landor livery but I guess I just found an excuse for a further one to be bought...😊 Thanks for sharing Alex 1

I'm sure we weren't far off 6000' at Hatton Cross, the number were spinning at a fair rate of knots and I vividly recall the VSI needle being very close to the top end of the gauge. They sounded so sweet at T/O power. I remember helping an LHR team change an engine on one of the 2 Glasgow based aircraft in '97 just after I moved back to Glasgow, I'd worked the 757 a lot at LHR, and I was on the headset outside during the post engine change runs down at Hold G. It was incredible to see how much the aircraft would lean with one engine at T/O power and the other at about 40-50%, huge amount of power is those Roller's Eng 1
Gimme Shelter Posted November 13 Posted November 13 a real stunner - quite perfect and lovely to look at. Best choice of livery too BTW 1
Eric Mc Posted November 13 Posted November 13 Lovely. Obviously a much better kit than the Minicraft one. 1
