John Masters Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 I haven't built an I-16 in. along time. Let's see how this one unfolds... The profile... And a small bag with two sprue, decals, et al... I'll get into it after I clear the bench a bit. --John 9
81-er Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 I've not built a Clear Prop kit before, so I'll be following with interest James

I think I will try to find an online review... Here's the sprue. It's got a lot of teeny pieces. And it's a small aircraft, so...the whole thing is teeny! Nice looking mouldings, though. Excellent surface detail. 8
John Masters Posted November 8, 2024 Author Posted November 8, 2024 I found a review. They like it... https://www.internetmodeler.com/scalemodels/flaviation/Clear-Prop-1-72-I-16-Type-5-1938-1941.php 1
John Masters Posted November 10, 2024 Author Posted November 10, 2024 In I go...little teeny parts. B6 is a good example. I skipped it. In regards to fit and detail, Clear Prop has over-Eduarded themselves. Definitely do not giant any area where the two pieces come together. The slightest fraction of a millimetre will prevent a clean seam. This clear part will be painted but I masked over the little windows first. The plastic is a medium grey so it isn't really necessary to paint the interior. I did anyway, after I had put it all together. I also skipped the decal on the IP before glueing it into one half of the fuselage. Btw...I put the two halves together to make sure it was in the correct position. Same with the backrest of the seat. This is next. --John 9
John Masters Posted November 10, 2024 Author Posted November 10, 2024 Great little kit. The fit is superb. As the review stated, after all the interior bits are together, the kit comes together rather quickly. --John 11
John Masters Posted November 10, 2024 Author Posted November 10, 2024 Ok. This is coming together very quickly. The fit in some areas is so tight the I wasn't able to get the cowing perfectly. .7mm off. So a bit of filler was needed. Nice kit, all the same. I recommend it. The exhausts are tiny and I have decided to add them near the end of the build, after painting. Nevertheless I gave them a bit of Burnt Iron... --John 11
81-er Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Wow, that is SMALL! Nice work so far with it, John James 1 1

I began the landing gear assembly. I will have the wait to finish it after I have attached it to the aircraft. The wheels are masked and painted Tire Black. And the windscreen is on so I gave it some primer. --John 9
John Masters Posted November 17, 2024 Author Posted November 17, 2024 Some masking for the white stripes... Looking nice. Some fine masking for the steel cowling ring... And masked that too... And then the A II Green... I'll try to get the aluminium underside and blue bits done this evening. I'm off-island until Thursday from tomorrow, so... --John 10

Franz75 Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Hi, excellent work. Regarding the blue paint, for me, it would be Vallejo. AMT 7 as light blue. 1

Yes...they gave a few options. The undercarriage is on! This was a satisfyingly fiddly bit of building. Guns, Venturi, scope, and exhausts...all on... Could it be that I am ready for decals? --John 6
81-er Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 That u/c definitely looks fiddly, but the build is looking great James

I'll get right on that now...🙄 I'll let that dry overnight and give it some varnish tomorrow to protect the finish. Then the photos, the gallery, etc... --John 9
