PeterR Posted November 4 Posted November 4 For those looking for a good, nay, superb, reference on the DH2, and haven't already got it, this is THE book: https://greatwaraviation.org/shop/books/books-published-by-gwas/de-havilland-dh2-and-the-men-who-flew-them/ Then again, it is under the Cross and Cockade label so to be expected. 2
europapete Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Sounds like a great book Pete, how is it for modeling details?

No specific modelling section (only the Eduard kit), but a lovely 'Details' section of about 10 pages. I haven't read it yet, but plenty of detail in diagrams and pictures. The book looks to cover EVERY DH2, with Squadron histories on the Western Front, the Middle East, Macedonia, Salonika, and Home Units including Training. Evaluation and Details follow that little lot, then each Squadron is looked at with COs, DH2 listings (serials) and DH2 casualties (also includes serials) This is followed by a listing of all the DH2s by serial with a history for each aircraft and a names index listing known pilots and the aircraft they flew (more serials). A set of 1/48 scale plans and selection of profiles follows, including details of No 24 Squadron's markings. Appendix 4 is devoted to the Eduard 1/48 Stripdown kit, Appendix 5 to notes on flying and fighting in the DH2, rounded out by an Appendix discussing the company that built it. The book is illustrated throughout by a very large range and number of photos. I was looking to build a plane flown by an 'Australian'. I found five in the book, complete with listings of the planes they flew, and even a photo of one of them. From a modelling perspective, heaps of details to be gleaned to help you finish your kit, and unbelievable information if you are unsure of the subject to build. 1
europapete Posted November 6 Posted November 6 (edited) Cool, thank you. I should have written the question more clearly/different as I meant good photo's and diagrams, but you answered that anyway, 👍 I have two WNW's kits, so I had better order the book. Great review, thank you again. Edited November 6 by europapete 1
Mr T Posted November 19 Posted November 19 (edited) I have a copy, it is an excellent book, there some nice colour shots of the current restoration/new build, that help give a feel for finishes on a kit. Edit, getting the restoration shots mixed up with the Dolphin book. But still probably the best single resource on the DH2. A lot of information about the type and it's use and the pilots, as swell as technical information modellers love. Edited November 21 by Mr T 1
PeterR Posted November 21 Author Posted November 21 A nice build of the Wingnuts Wings DH 2 over on Large Scale Planes 1 1
