jonf45 Posted November 4 Posted November 4 (edited) Hi, Due to the huge amount of members asking for a WIP (ok, one) i shall attempt to provide a diary of my butchering of the Zvedza Boeing 752!! Ive not tried one of their kits before, but first impressions are good, the plastic feels decent and on a couple dry fits the pieces have gone together very well The kit is intended to be the more modern version with winglets, but ill be doing it as a classic 752 in British Airways Landor livery. I have the the 26Decals sheet to make it as G-BIKC "Edinburgh Castle" circa 1987, what could possibly go wrong?!!! A few pics of the box and sprues etc Zvedza 1.144 B757 by Jonathan Francis, on Flickr Zvedza 1.144 B757 -3 by Jonathan Francis, on Flickr Zvedza 1.144 B757 -2 by Jonathan Francis, on Flickr Zvedza 1.144 B757 -4 by Jonathan Francis, on Flickr Zvedza 1.144 B757 -5 by Jonathan Francis, on Flickr Zvedza 1.144 B757-8 by Jonathan Francis, on Flickr Zvedza 1.144 B757-7 by Jonathan Francis, on Flickr Along with thousands of photos, ill use these to see if i can get a definitive answer on the colours to use!!! Zvedza 1.144 B757-6 by Jonathan Francis, on Flickr I started doing a colour test yesterday, hoping to pick up a few different paints this week so shall report back....... The only issue ive found so far is this missing part for a pylon, strangely its not in the plastic bag so i guess ill have to try and make one myself Zvedza 1.144 B757 -1 by Jonathan Francis, on Flickr Any help of advice gratefully received Cheers jon Edited November 20 by jonf45 5
Gimme Shelter Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Thanks for posting - from the huge amount of WIP requests person! Have you just raided my bookshelf? Those 3 must be missing.... Is that a 1/200 L10-11 creeping and photo-bombing that first shot by any chance too - need to know more ASAP ! All the best with the build - I have just bought one of these with the same intentions; ditch the winglets and go Landor or Chatham. 1
tomprobert Posted November 4 Posted November 4 I'll look forward to watching this - although won't you need the earlier, shorter nacelle RB211-C?? 1

FortyEighter Posted November 4 Posted November 4 I'll follow this with interest; I built the kit about a year ago in the "Special Schemes" GB. As far as I remember there were no issues putting it together and there is no multiple choice exam re which slats etc are you going to use. FWIW, here is the build thread Which paint are you intending to use for the pearlescent grey? Despite quite a few BA models built, I've yet to tackle a Landor version. Mike 1

jonf45 Posted November 7 Author Posted November 7 Hi guys, thanks for the replies, and especially for the gen regarding the engines, which id completely forgotten about!!! By the looks of it, itll have to be either G-CPEL or M, as i wanted it to be a fairly cheap/quick build, and the replacement engines seem a bit pointless in this regard!! I should be going to the Heathrow aviation fair in a couple of weeks, so ill keep an eye out there just in case Ive been doing some paint colour testing ( again, not wanting to have to go and buy loads of new paints) and i think Mr Color H326 looks a really good match for the dark blue, and best so far of the greys ( about 20 tested!!!) has been Mr Color H338, so shall give them a go and see how they look on a test part. Due to the shifts im on this week, all ive managed to do is glue the wings together, put the cockpit in( pointless really as i will use the transfer windows!!) and have just masked off the bodyside windows and applied milliput to fill the holes. Thanks again for your help and advice, and @Gimme Shelter, yes there is a TriStar on the desk to help with the colour references, award yourself a gold star Cheers Jon 1
Gimme Shelter Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Gold Star self-awarded thank you ! I think I will do the same unless I can grab some of those shorter RR's from LACI at the Telford Nationals this coming weekend, and stick to whats in the box and a finite choice of reg which will be limiting. I think LACI do a selection of Rollers for the 757 but they might only be the option with reverse thrust cladding open or an inspection pose. I'll check. looking forward to seeing more of your own 757 once you have sorted your paint shades out. The real things did use to fade remember !!
TeaWeasel Posted November 7 Posted November 7 The more of these I see, the more I want to give an airliner a go, looking forward to the next set of pics!

Interesting that you're going to try H338 (FS 36495) for the upper surfaces, it is listed as an equivalent for Revell 371 which @neilg used in this 747 build to good effect. I bought a bottle of MrPaint 364 (also FS 36495) at Telford and also MRP 392 (Pearl Gray FS 26493) and will compare them soon on some spare plastic but need to sort out my airbrush first (which needs one of the O-rings replacing). There was a nice display of British Airways aircraft at the show but most of the Landor models IMHO looked far too dark compared to photos of the real thing. Mike
jonf45 Posted November 20 Author Posted November 20 Hi, not much progress on this due to work, but i spent quite a bit of time trying to get the wingtips right, creating end pieces for them (as im not using the winglets) only to discover that there are actually a couple of pieces in the kit specifically for this, just not mentioned in the instructions........🤪 Zvedza 1:144 B757 by Jonathan Francis, on Flickr Ive not glued anything together yet, but the dry fits are very good, this is the fuselage halves put together, looks like very little sanding and filling will be required Zvedza 1:144 B757 by Jonathan Francis, on Flickr Ive decide on 2 more BA Landor builds so shall do separate WIPS for them, think it will be a bit confusing to put all into one....... Mike Hi Mike, thanks for that, thats a great build. I have now decided on a guniea pig to test out the paints, shall have a go with the H338 and report back!! Cheers Jon
Back in the Saddle Posted November 20 Posted November 20 Glad you pointed out the alternative wingtips - this kit is getting close to moving from stash to workbench, so that tip (no pun intended!) will save me no end of work!👍
