Superb work.  Looks like the textured paint would be ideal for the boot interior.

Morning all

I wasn't happy with leaving the inside of the boot flat so I found this...

And started doing this ...

spacer.png

And ended up with this!

spacer.png

So due to measurement error creep etc it is not an exact replica but it will do. The styrene sheet I used is a bit thick despite being sanded down but as I am going to carpet this using embossing powder I will press the powder down a bit on the raised areas only to minimise the appearance of height.

This is what it looks like in situe

And with the spare

Regarding that I have bought some whitemorph along with some greenstuffworld acrylic resin so I can make spare tyre.

I still need to tidy up the boot lid and then start getting the body prepped for primer and painting although that phase will have to wait for the warm weather to come back.

Thanks for looking, Nick

Your trunk floor is a piece of art, without any flattery 😍

Thank you all so much for your kind comments! 😊

Andy I was only thinking about embossing powder as I wanted to simulate carpet. You are right to replicate the look of the boot pic I posted textured paint would be better. I have seen people do a textured paint effect by airbrushing from further away. That way the paint starts to dry before it hits the plastic and you get a textured finish. I have no idea how that compares to actual textures paint.

Also the groves in my boot are deeper compared to the reference photo which is why I was thinking of using embossing powder.

The flat floor would have done for carpet.  😬  Now you've replicated the floor pressing, paint would be more appropriate.  The factory finish was Zolatone spatter paint, but at this scale, a charcoal grey will look close enough.

Well I can always try the paint first. If I don't like it then I can always add embossing powder over the top.

Thanks for the tip on the colour!

Hi Nick

When I painted the trunk panels of my Elvis BMW 507 model, I was able to reproduce a texture effect with the following method.

Here is a part of one of my posts:

"

Trunk panels:

I've painted semi-gloss black the interior panels of the trunk, using a new method (for me at least) in order to get a grainy aspect which simulate, at this scale, a felt lining.
To do that, I used Tamiya Lacquer Semi Gloss Black LP 8, without thinning it, sprayed at 20 psi, with a very low paint flow, in several layers.
The rendering, at this scale, is far better than what I would have obtained If I had used flocking powder or thin adhesive velvet.

"

I should add that I sprayed the paint from a greater distance than I'm used to.

If it helps...

Afternoon all

Ive been exploring how to get a spare tyre and looked at getting the blue stuff from greenworldstuff. However it looked a bit pricey to get it over here so found something called whitemorph which I thought would do the trick. It doesn't! 😄 Great for molding and then carving but as it dries solid it is not great for making moulds. And then I found a UK stockist of blue stuff so am waiting for that to turn up in the new year.

In the meantime I am taking a break from fiddly boot mods to work on something far easier...

A watch movement that I want to get working for my wife for valentine's day. It's a massive 18mm by 16mm! 😆

I'll get back to the Chevy once I've done this. From what I can see it just needs a good clean and a service so should be back in not too long.

I hope you all have a good Christmas break!

Morning all

It's been a while. Not much modelling done. Life, and cats (especially cats! 😄) got in the way. However that has all settled down and I've been able to get back to the Chevy.

I realised that when mating the chassis to the body there was a fitment issue due to boot interior.

spacer.png

As you can see the chassis does not go back as far as it should. Rather than trim the end of the boot interior which would have pushed back the more interesting bits out of sight I decided to separate the interior from the chassis and trim from the bit near the backs seats. It came out pretty easily with a scalpel.

spacer.png

And once trimmed

spacer.png

Much better fit

spacer.png

And looks ok from above too! Phew!

I got some blue stuff from greenstuffworld and managed to get a mould made and tyre using acrylic resin. Really pleased with that.

This build will go on the back burner for a bit whilst I get my other build going (revell 911 Carrera).

That will give me time to work out the detailing I want to do on the engine for this one. I really enjoyed doing that on the testarossa.

Thanks for looking, Nick

Haha! Cats still here it's just that we had the female neutered so had to ensure she didn't play, run, jump, etc. try getting a cat not to do that (or anything else for that matter!) so most of my mornings before going to work (where I mostly have my modelling time) were spent trying to ensure the cats weren't killing each other!

That's a most excellent boot interior Nick, and the spare does look really good!

Glad you managed to ensure both cats survived....!! :)

Neat solution to get the chassis to fit and you definitely won't need to hide the spare under a blanket,  it looks great - Andy

That whole boot area, trunk lid and hinge assembly is a terrific piece of work.  Ingeniously designed and superbly put together.

Evening all

I've made a start on the engine

spacer.png

spacer.png

I'm taking inspiration from the following to add extra details.

spacer.png

I've made some connectors for the distributor and glued some ignition wires to them

spacer.png

And I'm trying to replicate those cable tidies or whatever those blue blocks the cables are going through are called! 😄

spacer.png

Slow progress as I've only got two made as I lost one to the floor monster...

My plan is to replicate as much of the pipework as I can as I really enjoyed doing that on the testarossa build.

Thanks for looking, Nick

That's a nice looking engine already, even before the additions.

I do think it's very brave of you to store that E-Type below the paint stand though!

Nice.  The gearbox would be bare aluminium if you're going for a factory stock appearance.  ;)  The bellhousing would have been painted with the engine, so either orange, or aluminium with some orange overspray, depending on how enthused the painter was.

I can't believe those plug wire separators!  Your eyesight must be a lot better than mine...

Haha it's the 1/43 one. The bigger one is inside the display case.

Probably not but unlike most people I did go to Specsavers.😄

No idea what there called either,  however I can appreciate just who fiddly they were to make, even with decent magnification - Andy
