81-er Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 My latest completion, this is the Bandai 1/72 kit of the Slayn & Korpil A/SF-01 B-wing assault starfighter, finished in the colours seen in Return of the Jedi (with a bit of artistic license). OOB other than adding lights to the engines (an knock-off job from Amazon because I wasn’t spending more than I paid for the kit on the Bandai one). Paint is Tamiya & Mr Hobby acrylics, with some shades of AK Xtreme Metals and Alclad for the metallics. The roundels were masked and painted so I could chip them, and weathering is mostly oil paints. It's also quite hard to get a decent photo of the whole model in my photo booth, so I apologise if some of the photos are a bit fuzzy around the edges. James 38 1 4
trev1973 Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 Fantastic. Was taken to London as a child to see RoTJ on release at the Marble Arch big screen cinema - showing my age now. I'll have to build up some StarWars kits at som point. 2
Yg Models Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 (edited) nice pale blue + white color scheme. Edited October 31, 2024 by Yg Models 1
Ngantek Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 Lovely work. The chiping and texture is very starwars. 1
Pete in Lincs Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Very nicely done, James. I like the subtle weathering. Not too OTT like some builds. 1
81-er Posted November 1, 2024 Author Posted November 1, 2024 Thanks, Pete For anyone visiting Telford, this one will be on the IPMS Southend Model Club stand. As will I (behind it, I mean) James 1
trev1973 Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 What colour of dark grey did you use for the cockpit area? Is that one of the NATO blacks? Thanks

The Spadgent Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Really nice finish you heave on this one. I have a few Bandai kits that I’m itching to have a go at. Hopefully I can do something as good s as this. 🙌 Johnny 1
81-er Posted November 18, 2024 Author Posted November 18, 2024 Thanks mate I'm sure you will with your skills They're really nice kits to build, I've picked up another B-wing and an A-wing at Telford James
Hunter Rose Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Nice weathering and colours, looks great! 1
modelerdave Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 That is excellent. The chipping especially is spot on. 1
evilbobthebob Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Very nice. I do enjoy the B-wing, it's a really fun design. 1
81-er Posted November 22, 2024 Author Posted November 22, 2024 Thank you I do as well, it's actually my favourite of all the Rebel ships James
John Masters Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 This looks great. It's inspiring. I took my Bandai X-Wing off the shelf last night and essentially completed the kit in a few hours. Now it is time for primer, paint, etc... Have you built that kit? I watched the film last night too and Luke's X-Wing is pretty beat up. Lots of grime and scoring, chipped paint...I'd love to see a good build of one. I'll continue to search here. 1
81-er Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 Thanks John I've not built the X-wing, but it's on the wishlist. I've got another B-wing and an A-wing in the stash though James
John Masters Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 I just ordered a Y and B wing from the notorious auction site. It will be less expensive than Hannants. No VAT. I also saw the 1/72 scale Millennium Falcon is about 500€. Too rich for my blood! 1
John Masters Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 In May 1977 I was living in Des Moines, Iowa. Star Wars played for two weeks at the local cineplex. I think I saw it 6-7 times. Amazing. I haven’t been the same since. I am thoroughly enjoying this kit. I was thinking of painting the markings but the decals look excellent. I’ve given it some white primer and will begin the painting this evening. Red 5, obviously…☺️👍🏻 Are the other Bandai kits equally well designed? thanks for being a complete nerd with me on this. 🤣 1
lleo Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Great kit and great job. I remember when SW also was in the cinemas over here: it had the same impact on us as Grendizer and Gundam the first time they were shown on tv. The first three remain the best for me. Rogue One is also good, but it's not the first of something completely new as the originals were. 1

Sadly I didn't get to see Star Wars in the cinema until Lucas messed around with them and re-released them in the 90's, but I watched them on video many, many times as a kid. The B-wing is very nicely designed. You can keep it in sub-assemblies for painting, I broke mine down into the main wing/body section, the two folding wings, the engine bell assembly, the guns, and I broke the cockpit pod into the front and back halves.
