Ferrari 512 BBi (Fujimi, 1/24)

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

a flawed kit of a beautiful car. Had a hard time finding the motivation to finish it.

Painted in original Ferrari color "Blu Chiaro Metallizzato" which I really like a lot.

Well, you’ve made a cracking job of it, @TommyOneTwoFour!

Although the wheels are nicely detailed, I’d say the diameter seems a bit large for that era. I’d expect to see more tyre sidewall.

Exceptional execution, though, and I love your dioramas

That's an absolute beauty!  Great colour and finish, well detailed interior, a superb model all round.

It looks very good to me, and even though I've not seen a 512BB in anything other than red I think the blue really suits it. I've got to admit I cant' remember if this is one of their Enthusiast models which could account for the trickiness of the build.

Have agree with previous comments; this is a great model in a gorgeous colour. I am glad you pushed on and finished it.

Looks excellent to me! Great colour choice rather than resale red! I have one in the stash, so it would be good to hear what the “flaws” might be…

best,

Matt

Thanks Matt. The most obvious flaw is that the the Campagnolo wheels are way too large. On the built model they rather appear to be about 17 inches wide whereas they should be 15 inches. The kit's tyres on the other hand are small, probably the correct size. But they don't fit on the wheels. So you end up looking for fitting tyre in the parts box. Needless to say, the overall look is a bit "restomod" for a classic Ferrari. 🤨

Other than that, it's the engineering of the kit in the rear area that I didn't like. The fitting of the body on the chassis did not work properly, neither did the "system" that Fujimi had in mind for having a working (moving) clamshell.

At least it did not work for me. So it could have been my own flaws after all. 😉

Thanks! The kit is not marked as an Enthisiast Model, and the parts count of 136 would probably be too low for that. I think the degree of detail on this kit is "reasonable", comparable to Tamiya perhaps. Would have liked it if the engineering of the kit would have been more like Tamiya, too... 🙂

I know exactly what you mean. I recently built a Fujimi Lexus IS350 and there were several times during the build where I just looked at the components and instructions and thought "there's a much better way to engineer this, without losing any detail, that would make the kit easier to assemble and more robust when finished.

Wonderful colour combination,  one of those kits you sadly don't see built too often.

Great job matey 👌.

I'd agree with you that 136 parts count sounds too low for something which started life as an Enthusiast kit (would probably expect 200+ if that was the case). Then again, it still looks good even without the tons of extra parts.

Thanks! As I mentioned above, it has 136 parts, so it's a full kit somewhere inbetween a curbside and an Enthusiast Model type of kit.
