Redstaff Posted October 30 Posted October 30 Last year I started a Tamiya Yamaha 023 F1 car and it stalled due to a decal issue, new decals were ordered and the kit was put on the shelf of doom while I waited. There it sat forgotten while I ploughed on with other stuff. This seems like an ideal time to finish it off and clear some space on the shelf. Link to original build here if anyone wants a look, then a quick pic of where I got to. I need to get my head around where I am and what's next to do 12 months down the line, then I'll make a start Progress as it stands along with the new Indycals decals Ian 9
Mjwomack Posted October 30 Posted October 30 A lot of builds seem to 'stall' at the decals but I'd reckon that on this the complex curves are particularly difficult. 1

Thanks 😀 I think it was a combination of complex curves and 20 odd year old decals that did it for this build, they wouldn't follow without plenty of microsol and that made them way to fragile and they were cracking and splitting all over. Paint will look better in the long run, it'll just involve plenty of complex masking 😬 1
Redstaff Posted November 2 Author Posted November 2 Masked off and painted Tamiya LP6 with a little black added to darken a bit, dash finished and seat and front wing in progress. Bare metal foil added as well 😀 10
Redstaff Posted November 15 Author Posted November 15 Bit more progress last couple of days Bodywork fixed in place after a fair bit of trimming and shaving the engine and radiators etc, not sure why though as everything went together well 🤔 Still, I was going to leave body on anyway, so tacking in place with a bit of glue is no issue. Tyres sanded and fitted to wheels, spoiler built up, just needs a sand down and paint, along with the mirrors. Then a bit of a polish to get rid of finger marks etc. On to the decals over the weekend with a bit of luck Ian 7
Redstaff Posted November 17 Author Posted November 17 Decals finished, just need sealing in probably tomorrow and add the mirrors, aerial and wheels. It's amazing how decals mask some of the imperfections in the paint job. 9
Bobby No Mac Posted November 17 Posted November 17 Looking good It was a sad reflection on Tyrell's twilight years that they were reduced to such a patchwork of sponsors. 1

Redstaff Posted November 24 Author Posted November 24 Calling this one done for now Not been as easy as I would have liked and not one of my best builds, but at least it's not sitting in it's box on the shelf of doom still Ian 5
