He's not (though he might be your answer)

Pedant mode on

His name was Marmaduke Thomas St John Pattle, aka Pat Pattle; and he died when his Hurricane crashed into the sea off Piraeus, Greece - not Egypt.

He was the highest scoring British Commonwealth pilot of WWII and 15 of his 40+ victories were gained in the Gloster Gladiator.

What links

A cartoon dog

A large cargo ship from a west country port

A strong influence on the weather

A wading bird

I apologise that, once again, one of these clues might be harder for non UK members.

Agreed, but the answer was Marmaduke Pattle.🙂

What I meant was that he shot down his first aircrafts in Egypt.

Apologies and you are right in putting the record straight.

Pattle / Pattie was a brain induced typo, the death reference was because I did not read all the Wikipedia article and just noted that his name  is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial at El Alamein.

Parnall Plover?

One correct. I would suggest start thinking about the link between the four.

The first half is correct.

As I said to @Dave Swindell the link between the four is actually the the key to the puzzle as well as the answer.

If no one has got it by tomorrow morning I will add a fifth clue.

Is it C-130 W-2,XV208 Snoopy?

I looked for Flugzeug Snoopy and pictures of the comic aircraft and this showed.I do not know what it has to do with the bird and the Bristol Freighter.

Hopefully tomorrow's clue will be of help, unless someone gets the answer overnight.

and one of possibly:-

Avro Avocet

CLW Curlew

Sopwith Snipe

Hawker Woodcock

Ilushin Il 18 Coot (or Taylor Coot)

De Havilland Flamingo

But I'm not seeing any link between them....
