A little (Short) broken (sunder) terrain (land). U426 is indeed the U Boat sunk by the "Fliegende Stachelschwein...". Over to you my friend for the next one... 😀
GiampieroSilvestri Posted January 22 Posted January 22 What is the link between a famous pilot, something very frightening and a lazy person? Saluti Giampiero
Robert Shedd Posted January 22 Posted January 22 5 hours ago, GiampieroSilvestri said: What is the link between a famous pilot, something very frightening and a lazy person? Saluti Giampiero Anything to do with the Spooky or Spectre gunships or McDonnell F3 Demon?
GiampieroSilvestri Posted January 22 Posted January 22 No!Here is a tip.It is impossible to bend it. Saluti Giampiero
GiampieroSilvestri Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Here is a tip.It looks frightening but there are smaller ones that are much more dangerous. Saluti Giampiero
GiampieroSilvestri Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Another tip.The frightening thing has more legs than any other animal. Saluti Giampiero
Jure Miljevic Posted January 23 Posted January 23 It is not particularly frightening, still, could it be a centipede? The corresponding aircraft would then be Arado Ar 232 transport. I am still clueless about the rest of the puzzle. Cheers Jure

It is not the Arado Ar 232 Tausendfüssler. The animal has eight legs.Another tip.Remember the thing that can't be bent. Saluti Giampiero Edited January 23 by GiampieroSilvestri

Thirty years ago more or less, during my days as a Biology student, there was a preserved centipede in one of the labs. The thing was about 30 cm long (one foot for you Imperials) with the most vicious-looking chelicerae you can think of. When asked about it I was told it was from the Amazon (no, not that one!) and its diet included mice and small birds. I was frightened! 1
Robert Shedd Posted January 23 Posted January 23 What about the DH Vampire and Eric "Winkle" Brown landing one on HMS Ocean? (Vampire spider/famous pilot). Can't see how this fits in with something that can't be bent or a lazy person though... 😐
GiampieroSilvestri Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) Unfortunately not the Vampire and Eric Brown. Here is a tip.The spider is very big but it is not dangerous. The thing that cannot be bent changes its colour. Saluti Giampiero Edited January 23 by GiampieroSilvestri
Jure Miljevic Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Hello, Fukuryu That one certainly sounds vicious (could the one in university lab belong to Scolopendra gigantea ?), but fortunately I have only came across the garden variety centipedes (or should it be centipedae). Cheers Jure
GiampieroSilvestri Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Here is another tip.The spider comes not from Taranto but from Brasil. Saluti Giampiero
Jure Miljevic Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Another shot in the dark ... The spider would be Brazilian wandering spider, also called banana tarantula. The famous pilot would be Pierre Clostermann, born in Brazil. The aircraft could have been Piasecki H-21, nicknamed Flying banana, which had been used by French in Algerian war. However, while Pierre Clostermann did fight in Algeria, I think he flew fixed wing aircraft. Cheers Jure

Since those days, anytime I see one of the common ones here (no more than a couple centimetres long, if that) I leave them alone since I don't want a visit from their Big Boss!
