My main problem would be to restrict myself from buying too much - still I'm afraid I'm already thinking of making wheeled, ski and floats versions.

With Beavers the choice would be difficult. I'd like to build at least one in Antarctic colours. But what to choose? Skis or floats? British, Aussie or Argentinian?

Or a New Zealand one too!

A definitely for me. I notice that the  tail plane end plate/fins are there too, seen on many civilian ones. A very thoughtful inclusion.

Let's see if parts for float and ski equipped versions will be on standard sprues or on additional sprues in dedicated sets only. Also their renders show quite a lot of tiny parts. Interesting to see if we get those on sprues or as a photoetch fret.

In 1/48 they have a dedicated Antarctic set with Argentinian and two Australian options.

And I think I made a mistake taking NZ Beaver in Antartica for British. I think British expeditions actually did not use DHC-2 there. But there was also a Japanese Beaver JA3111! White with red sections. Very cool looking.

Time to retire my two Airfixes!

Very nice, I probably won't be able to resist a Dutch Beaver (who could!). Let's hope this news prompts a new DutchDecal sheet.

As a bonus, if nothing else it would give the BM community ample opportunity for a salvo of terrible Beaver puns. ;)

Cheers,

Andre

Hmmm.... in Russian 'beaver (bearded) pun' or 'beaver joke' is equivalent to 'old chestnut joke' which is a terrible joke by definition :)

Anybody want to buy my shrinkwrapped Airfix kit?

This will soon become a battle cry among many a modeler.  I'm sure it'll be a nice kit when it finally emerges, but it'll likely cost twice as much as Airfix's repop, which was in the neighborhood of $15.

You are right, Kenny- we don't blink twice at what s single-engined 1/72 kit goes for nowadays, but I'm getting too old and lazy to deal with all the corrections, (I hate doing putty and filler!) and you would need a better engine and prop, and would have to make vacform transparencies; since 2020, it's not the price of the kit so much, it's the shipping that has gone through the roof!

Mike

Actually, the Beaver was one of the better older  Airfix kits, and really just needs better transparencies and some extra detailing in the cockpit- I have plenty of spare radials and props in my spares bins, too.

For an addicted modeller relocation closer to a place where all these new kits are produced could be an economical option ;)

 Serioiusly? I'll be in touch.

Yes… I will still buy a couple of these but why not these older kits need love to don't they ? I want at least one each of wheeled, skis, and floats all bush aircraft. To me these are the best bush planes ever made for the job.

How are land prices in Moldova these days?  I've been to Chisinau; it's pretty nice.

Just look for a plot large enough to build a barn for stash storage :)

And I've just finished sanding down all those rivets on the Airfix kit. Would you believe it?

Thanks.  Your singular actions have been sufficient to tip the balance in favor of a new kit.  Well done, sir.
