Been dithering over restocking on grey primer as couldn't decided which of the bulk options to get, the most expensive (6) but best value or the cheapest (2) but the worst value, wasn't that much in it in the value department but as im not spending much on anything else decided to just splurge on the 6, should see me for a while

Something different for me and a new supplier

I ordered these

Screenshot 2024-12-12 140930

and what arrived was

ww1a

as is usual for 3d printed items. They have cleaned up well and are destined for a small diorama based around the Roden B-type bus which became a stalled project in the Ukrainian GB. That's now back on track and I was so pleased with these figures I have ordered a number more,

Apparently I purchased something after a few drinkies last night, decals (and a canopy) from the Italeri and hobbyboss f15. Probably won’t use them for years but hey ho, have eyed up both kits for the decals many times so least I don’t need to buy either now. Also popping to Lidl later to see if they have any airfix spitfires leftedit: and they did got one plus a gnat edit2: also ordered a kp spitfire v

From Art Scale Kit Distribution

Latest ‘Duke Hawkins’ releases from HMH Publications , ordered from Europe because releases earlier this year were very slow in reaching the UK , turned out this time mine were delivered the same week as UK sellers received their stocks but slightly lower European prices with higher shipping worked out just about the same as higher UK prices with lower postage.     Both follow the usual format of full-size aircraft and close-up detail images.

Duke Hawkins 036 Blackburn Buccaneer Flying With The British and South African Air Forces book , 140 pages with quite a few of the full-size aircraft images and what looks like most if not all of the close-ups being of preserved aircraft.      SAAF use is restricted to two images of museum examples with a third being a close-up of the Matra R530 AAM seen displayed alongside one of them although I was unaware that South African ingenuity during sanctions had led to it being used by the Buccaneer , the other museum image shows a number of rather interesting pods displayed alongside but they are not identified.

Duke Hawkins 037 Flying With The US Navy and IRIAF book , at 220 pages this is the thickest title so far in their standard range , IRIAF coverage is limited to 12 images.

From Amazon

ABC Military Aircraft Of The 1950s book , originally compiled by John W R Taylor , originally published separately 1954-56 by Ian Allan but now collected together and recently released by Crecy , brings together four separate releases from the extensive and popular series with British Military Aircraft , US & Canadian Aircraft , Continental Military Aircraft and Helicopters covered here , fascinating nostalgia with their grainy postage stamp sized black & white images of the day.

From Airfix

Airfix BUNDLEA52 1/48 Westland Sea King HC.4 kit and Collector Coin , pre-order using 10% Airfix Club discount , had wondered if the HAR.3 might have been the second release but maybe next year.

Via eBay

1/72 adM Models Display Base – Sandy Ground With Rough Stones resin moulding , one-piece approx. 5.5” x 3.5” x 0.25” thick , flat’ish textured ‘sandy’ base with approx. 1.5” x 1.5” ‘rocky’ section in one corner , labelled as 1/72 but in reality depends on whether the rocks are knee-high in 1/72 , ankle-high in 1/35 or somewhere in between for 1/48 , unfortunately the makers website is dead so no idea if they made others.

From BNA Model World

Live Resin LRE48009 1/48 Modern PKT Machine-gun Mount for Mi-8 Helicopter (3 Mounts In Set) Afghan War resin accessories - cockpit nose , troop door and tail emergency hatch guns, mounting brackets and ammunition boxes in resin.

Spent a few days in Wellington for our youngest's capping, managed a trip out to Paraparaumu (Kapiti Coast) on the fairly new Transmission Gully motorway & called into Minikiwiland to pick up some kits I'd prepaid, a KP Hawk H-75C-1 with French markings, an Italeri Churchill Mk III & a little Zvezda 1/73 Zis-3 anti tank gun, comes with a base & 3 figures, I can see a small vignette on the future. I supplemented these with a AZ Tempest V with 486 Squadron markings. The saving in post paid for a fair bit of the run out there. :)

One of my favourites, despite the reported inaccuracies, which I never noticed when I built mine back in the last century, lol.

Mine’s just arrived. I’d check the windscreen for moulding flaws - like mine has…. I’m struggling to insert an image of mine from my iPad.

Bought three new E-books for my research library. This will hopefully help me get all my Soviet aircraft better. As I have a number to do in Soviet and Polish markings this will hopefully get me there.

This one of course was written by a member @Learstang. The next one is an osprey book on Mediterranean P-40 units.

As Im planning on a few 57th FG P-40’s in the near future It could only help. Last and for a minor $3.00 I picked this up as I have an S-2F Tracker and an S-3 Viking also in the pipeline.

My Azur Battle kit arrived from Special Hobby today, colour me impressed, both with the speed of arrival & the look of the kit in the box. Other than the afore mentioned fabric control surface effects, it looks like a goodun. :)

Put an order in for the Arma Ki-43 II from Super Hobby. A bit disappointed that they seem to be moving away from including etch with their kits, but I’ll be interested to see how this one builds up. Maybe I’ll purchase a resin seat later.

A trip over to Halifax today courtesy of Northern Rail netted my pre ordered Battle (only one, I know my limits) and SH Havoc I. The Battle looks very fine, and looking at the rest of the kit, I cannot understand why they messed the fabric control surfaces so much.

Went to add some masking sheets to the order, and noticed they had some recent Airfix kits for over 50% off. So I added the newest Meteor boxing, which I have on my list for a 92 Sqn project. I’ll have to ban myself from looking at Boxing Day sales now.

The Azur Frrom Battle arrived yesterday from Hannants, it's the AASF boxing, well, that's the box art that appealed most to me.  I know, I'm shallow.  Anyway, today saw the arrival of the Arma Hobby 1/48 Hurricane Mk. llB from the Black Friday sale.  What can I say, two lovely kits :D

From Amazon

There had been no new Aviation Art Inc. series releases for a few months when I had started catching up on those I had missed from years ago but have now got the completist bug out of my system with the last of them - F-14 Tomcat Illustrated with 2 pages on Iran (2015) , F-35 Lightning II Illustrated up to early US service and overseas users development (2017) , F/A-18 Hornet/Super Hornet/Growler Illustrated mainly US use with 12 pages on overseas users (2018) , B-52 Stratofortress Illustrated (2018) and P-40 Warhawk Illustrated mainly US use with 12 pages on Flying Tigers 12 on other overseas use and 6 on Warbirds (2022) , all by Lou Drendel and published by Amazon as shown , all around 110 pages +/- , usual format for the series with illustrated history , author’s original artwork , technical manual drawing excerpts.

From Amazon

Colors & Markings of the F-106 Delta Dart (Colors & Markings Series Volume)  book , by Rock Roszak , published 2024 by Detail & Scale printed in the UK by Amazon , more images of the F-106 always welcome.

Via Ali Express

As always rather obscurely worded item listings , images of items as advertised and parts as delivered are shown.

Soldier Model Kit Illustration Colorless and Self Assembled A-1550, 1/48 Rosin is actually a 1/48 Russian Mi-8 Door Gunner With PKT Machine Gun , Door Mount , Ammunition Belt And Box in resin , got two of them for about £5.40 each including shipping and VAT.

Listed as ZBBOY Robot & Girl Rosin Model Kit although on the images it is described a bit creepily as Yufan ZBBOY TD2915 1/35 Battle Robot And Little Girls resin kit , cost with shipping and VAT was just under £14 , comes with integrally moulded interior , optional one-piece closed/three-piece open crew door although both have nice interior detail , multi-part scantily clad female pilot , one-piece cobbled base inside sci-fi style ring , maybe just my example but detail on pod sides around the forward leg fitting is a little bit softer than the rest of the part but more noticeable by the shiny finish there than anything else.

Hello Jason, Thank you Im quite sure it will. Ive only had a chance at a cursory (1 hour) glance through and it’s definitely worth the $ spent. Im trying to build up a sizable amount of Polish A.F. examples in my collection. Some of which of course were soviet types in the war and after. Plus this will give me an idea what I may need to buy to add to my collection.

Yes, that's the problem with books, isn't it. You not only pay for the book but for all the kits you want to buy after looking at the book.

Best Regards,

Avoiding buying stuff but couldn’t help make a trip to my local to get something, left with the second boxing of the airfix spitfire vc and the old tool hasegawa f-15dj, least they should be fun simple builds for the new year. Also purchased what felt like my own body weight of festive delights (which is saying something as I’m not a small scale chap)  for the family the last few days

A Christmas present to myself, and my first RFM kit. For some reason I've always liked this rather obscure vehicle. I chose this one over the billion part Miniart version as construction is a bit more straightforward and it has working steering. It also has two sets of beautifully moulded rubber tyres. 🙂
