The creaky 22 yr old Almera has gone

Nissans

And replaced with one of these weapons

New Micra

Very happy to be back in a Micra after my old K11 went earlier this year.
Best part is I got £350 trade in on the £200 Almera :)

From Aldi

Two Airfix A68220 1/72 Curtiss Tomahawk IIB Starter Set kits , only aircraft kit in the current ‘Middle Aisle’ special offer that I do not already have in the pile (no Vampires at the local branch) so set a couple aside.

From The48ers

AWC Models D48-001 1/48 Mil Mi-8MTV/Mil Mi-17 decals , examples for - Poland (Chad 2008) , Hungary , Slovakia (SAR) , Russia , Czech Republic (Kosovo 2007) , Mexico.

From Amazon

Given some cash as an anniversary present so did some more catching up on some Aviation Art Inc. series books that I missed when first released - F-16 Viper Illustrated (2016) , B-25 Mitchell Illustrated (2018) , A-10 Warthog Illustrated (2018) , P-47 Thunderbolt Illustrated (2018) , B-17 Flying Fortress Illustrated (2018) and V-22 Osprey Illustrated (2019) , all by Lou Drendel and all published by Amazon as shown , usual format for the series with illustrated history , author’s original artwork (these older titles seem to have more than recent releases do) , technical manual drawing excerpts – where there have been foreign users the focus tends to be on US use (F-16 an exception) and with the older aircraft on their WWII operations.

From The Family

Samsung UHD 43"  Smart TV as an anniversary present , 40" predecessor was around 10 years old and during the past year it was no longer supported by some streaming platforms and even using a Fire Stick had very slow connection speeds so we have been upgraded , now just getting used to the new home screen and still searching for a couple of features we used to have.

I bought three Airfix Vampire T.11 kits from Aldi.

So did I.

Not all at once though ... I spread my purchases out over three visits to three different outlets. Don't ask me why, it's not as if I have to hide them from anyone 😀

I was quite restrained during the Airfix Black Friday Fortnight clear out, only purchasing this:

Well...another month, another book order.

Beautiful, evocative and informative books from the higher end of the Osprey range. The Pepys's Navy book is paperback (hardback editions seem to be going for silly prices second-hand, but I'll keep my eye out) and - by the author's own admission - an homage to Lavery's two volumes, but he seems to have pulled it off successfully. Definitely going to be storing these (along with the Chatham set I picked up recently) away from little hands and sunlight.

Two books adrift at the moment, I'd better get Chrimbo out of the way before putting another order in.

And the last couple have arrived - I've got a couple of alternative Marlborough biographies, but enjoyed Holmes's book on Wellington (and I've got more than one biography on him 😉 ). A fascinating and flawed character, I'm looking forward to this one.

Having read few Konstam books recently, I like his accessable style - might be a queue-jumper...

I've been keeping an eye out for this for a while now and found one in the recent Tank Museum sale:

I'm quite interested to read up on how a flight deck operates.

As I am in an Italian phase at the moment, this should help.

From Amazon

Mustang Illustrated book , by Lou Drendel , published via Amazon , after several months without any new additions to the series this latest release with 177 pages is a bit of a heavyweight compared to usual subjects , typical format with an illustrated history , a good selection author’s own artwork , promotional material of the day , technical manual excerpts , post-war use is included but other than RAAF/SAAF/ROKAF during the Korean War coverage of overseas users is rather sparse.

From Aldi

Two Airfix A68225 1/72 de Havilland Vampire T.11 Starter Set kits , part of the current ‘Centre Aisle’ offer , odd thing is that when the offer started last Thursday the local branch had no Vampires , was back in this Thursday and not only did they have more kits in stock than the previous week but there were quite a few Vampires among them , don’t usually restock special offers so can only imagine that the delivery was still being put out on the shelves on my first visit.

From WH Smith

Couple of recently released Mortons Media titles in their Tempest Books imprint this week.

Harrier Boys – True Tales Of The Legendary Jump Jet bookazine , by Bob Marston , 2024 reprint of the 2015 Grub Street original , well illustrated throughout.

Modern Aerobatic Teams – Jet And Prop Types From All Over The World – Liveries & Markings From 1950 To The Present bookazine , by J P Vieira , latest addition to a now quite lengthy series of profile artwork books with 150+ large colour sideview profiles , arranged by country and while not encyclopaedic covers a lot of ground , only drawback is landscape format drawings in a portrait format book so parts of each are lost in the centrefold.

Greek Bloch 151 :) and a rare Ki-83

And something completely different - dabbling in figure/statuettes.
Both off 'bay, decent prints that need a little cleanup, but as the Athena statue shows nice details.
Long-term projects, more likely.

The latest in the 33 1/3 series of boos on individual albums arrived today from the Publisher, together with the CD's to go with two if them.

Firstly,

SAM_6096

Kate Bush's The Hounds of Love and Dolly Parton's White Limozeen, both with the album in CD form.

I'm well familiar with Hounds of Love, it has 3 singles on it Cloudbusting, Running up that hill and the Big Sky, and the second side of the album is of course a side long 7 track song cycle, the 9th Wave. The other is my first Dolly Parton CD - and book!

Then these arrived;

Sam_6097

From top left, Garth Brookes in the life of Chris Gaines; an odd one this, Garth Brookes, one of the most successful country singers ever, chose to record an album as a fictional rocker named Chris Gaines. No one seems to know why, but I;m hoping the book will give some clues. Then top right we have Red Hot and Blue, a compilation album of Cole Porter songs as a response to the AIDS outbreak in the late '80's.

Then at bottom right  there is The Moon and Antarctica, by Modest Mouse, of whom I know little; and finally at bottom left is the Soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever, a book in the off shoot 33 1/3 series known as Oceania, the music of the Pacific Islands and Australia/New Zealand.

I imagine most Britmodellers will know of the film Saturday Night Fever, and the extraordinary tracks on it by the Bee Gees, and will appreciate that despite the non Bee Gees tracks on the album it is for the Bee Gees involvement the book is placed in a series of books of Australian/Pacific music.

The heavy involvement of Robert Stigwood - an Australian  - in the film is another reason, too.

I now have all 189 books so far published in the 33 1/3 series, if you want to read more this is a concise history and analysis, and also gives all the titles released in the main series and the off shoots.

Red Hot and Blue

Neneh Cherry and U2 directly come to mind.  Did Prince also feature on that album? Not sure..  it's been a while :D

don’t understand why this link is so long!

‘Cos it’s got your marketing cookies in it. Click on the little “share” icon (square with an up arrow) and you’ll get one that looks like this:

More to the point, that album is why there is the utterly brilliant version of “Well, did you evah?” by Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop…

best,

M.

Following my previous post, this arrived yesterday .....

20241207_201849

I added the Eduard Brassin undercarriage legs as they are in the right position for a fully loaded aircraft, unlike the kit ones.

I have to say that at £100 (special offer), the kit is great value for money ..... and huge!

No idea where it will go as and when I dare to tackle it!

I've been on the hunt for accessories lately...

An Italian store had a sale on Aires and Quickboost items so I decided to grab a few.

20241208_125500

As you can see I like resin engines! I feel that they improve the look of a model a lot and with Quickboost this is at a relatively small cost.

Then it was time for some online auctions and I managed to win this lot:

The funny thing is that I don't have that many Thunderbolts in the stash and now I feel I need more..

And now a real blast from the past with these three old bases from Verlinden

20241208_125417

These came from a small local event, where a train shop had some old stuff for little money. These were €3 each, quite a bargain.

Lucky win on your squadron of P-47’s worth of decal’s. I had those Verlinden deckings. I glued them to 1/4 plywood. They lasted about 15 years before they got wet and moldy.
