Karlee is still with the rescue (Temporary foster until she is old enough to leave her mother). She will be here in December, she has one blue eye so pretty unique. Whofan Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Final loot from SMW 2024 arrived today, from the Dorset Print man a 1/72 Westland Whirlwind Helicopter and a 1/72 goalkeeper. Firstly the Whirlwind; Apologies for the poor quality of the photo. The kit comes in a palin brown box, the parts well secured, with three rotor blades, a door, two rather thick tail rotors, wheels, a bit that looks like a rivet which I can only imagine might be a tail skid, and a set of windows printed in clear resin, together with a single printed body. The overthick tail rotors won't be difficult to sand down - I hope. The gearbox area is printed very well inside the cockpit, but that is itself very basic - in fact, there is no cockpit! The clear resin glazing looks quite froseted to me, hopefully this will work its way out - I have contacted the Dorset printman for advice on how to get the clear resin clear, if you see what I mean. There are no instructions or decals; decals isn't a problem, I can get 3rd party decals easily enough, and if I can't work out how to put it together then I suspect I ought to hang up me scalpel and stop making kits! The other item I bought from Dorset Printman is the Goalkeeper CIWS that was used by the Royal Navy prior to its adoption of the phalanx CIWS system. I bought this really on impulse, as I have the RPG kit of the phalanx in 1.35 so although much smaller, I have it to go with ithat. that's it, two pieces. I suspect most of the fun will be in painting, and perhaps having a go at weathering. One thing I am not yet sure about is whether or not to get the Master A-10 gun parts in brass, to replace the rather simple gun barrels as printed. I'll probably get the parts then have a look at them against the printed barrels before I make any cuts!! 5

These are my 2nd, 3rd, and soon to be 4th. Wife says if we get another dog I can get the supersized version (English Bulldog). I agree about the car comment, in fact I usually say they ran into a wall. 1
Karearea Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Avoiding Black Friday impulse purchases this year, but I did buy another Eduard Spitfire Mk.IX Weekend Ed. at a price I couldn’t say no to. 2
Giorgio N Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Latest here was the proof that sometime it's still possible to score a decent bargain on that auction site: a new tool Airfix Vulcan for around £30. Not the latest issue but I'm more than happy with the one I got. Now I have to decide what to do with the old tool kit I already have in the stash... 3

I wonder if we will see 3D printers go the same way, a printer for £99 but resin at £100 a pack! 2 1

Andy H Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 Part two of this month's book orders. Got a complete set of Chatham Pictoral Histories, hardback, 'like new' or 'very good' condition for ridiculously low prices from various suppliers via Mr Bezos. It can be a bit of a lottery, but no complaints with this batch; even the ladies of the house took time out from moaning about books all over the place with a chorus of 'Ooh! They look nice.' Might have to intercept Postie and smuggle tomorrow's expected arrivals in, though... 5
Karearea Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 (edited) Local Airfix distributor had an annual clearance, and I found a cheap 1/48 Bristol Bulldog and P-40B, both of which had been on the wishlist for a while. Breaking my impulse purchase rule I couldn’t resist a Sabre F.4… One of the F-35Bs finally made it in as a stocking stuffer for my son. Edit- I forgot the Spitfire XIV I also grabbed, enjoying the one I’m building enough that I’d like to do another sometime, maybe the Omaka aircraft. Anyone else in Auckland, it’s the Holdson’s Sale, Rosebank Rd in Avondale. Edited November 28, 2024 by Karearea Forgot my F-35 variants 2
DaveJL Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 Pre-ordered a Tamiya F-35C as an early Christmas present to myself (assuming it arrives before then ), another Eduard P-51 (Red Tails dual combo), a couple of spray booth filters and a top up of tape, glue and some paints. Exciting stuff! 2
treker_ed Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 A couple of Airfix in their sale: FG1/FGR2 Phantom 1/72 - £34.99 reduced to £20.99 FR5 Swift 1/72 £24.99 reduced to 18.99 Plus a further 10% discount being an Airfix club member. Nothing else in the sale interested me or I already had one of them in the stash. Not really one to buy multiples of the same kit. And a few extra Hornby Points to add to that total as well. 2
Andy H Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 And that concludes this month's book buying madness...⚓ 6

flyboy2610 Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 The postman brought me this: It's a padded envelope! Inside the padded envelope was: A box! Inside that box was: Another box! Inside that box was: A Gaahleri Collaborative Edition Studio G Swallow Tail trigger action airbrush. "Flyboy, you bought another airbrush??!!" "How many does this make, now? 6? 7?" Umm....... 11. I find myself using my trigger action airbrushes more and more often. For me they are just more comfortable. This particular brush was developed in collaboration with Studio G, a YouTube channel focusing on Gundam modeling. It is designed especially for those individuals who have hand or wrist issues, such as carpal tunnel syndrome or arthritis. While I do not suffer from those issues, I have been wanting to get this airbrush. When I saw it on Gaahleri's website for $40 off, I grabbed one. I like my NeoEco trigger action airbrush, but the MAC valve sometimes gets in the way of my fingers. My Harbor Freight Black Widow trigger action airbrush is really nice, but it has one those tiny screw in Iwata style nozzles, and so I'm kind of hesitant to spray any kind of thick primer through it, like Stynylrez. This airbrush does not have a MAC valve, which is something I really don't use anyway, and it has a drop in self centering nozzle design, so it has just about all the features I would like in a trigger action brush. It comes with a 0.28mm needle and nozzle installed, and it includes a 0.5 and 0.7 as well. A fan cap is available for use with the 0.5mm needle and nozzle, but I'm not planning on getting one any time soon. I think I'm going to like this airbrush! I plan to finish priming all the parts for my Tamiya '66 VW Beetle with it tomorrow. 7
