2 new pairs of tracksuit bottoms for cycling, slightly ruined two pairs before the summer by being to lazy to change out of them before getting back to modelling with superglue and inevitably getting it on them, nobody would know but I like to have pristine stuff for outside the house

Started wearing jogging bottoms around the house late last year when I was recuperating from an operation and since then wear them every day that I am not going to be going to go out , really comfy , should have started years ago.

A little something from IKEA:

IMG-9131.jpg

The "Besta" cabinet is 60x60x20cm or 24x24x8ins and is just the right size for my figure collection. I managed to find a wooden upright inside the wall, so the cabinet is secured to that and not relying on 100+ year-old plaster to stay up.

All except one of the figures were built in the 1970s and this is the first time they have seen daylight in 31 years! Still working through the figures repairing minor dings and breakages from transport and storage, and I need to finish off a couple of them, but on the whole they have survived amazingly well.

On the opposite (brick) wall I have two of the 40cm/16in double depth cabinets that I have yet to populate with aeroplanes. I should get fifty or more models in there. Lots of choices to be made from nearly 200 builds.

The glass shelves are expensive and a  fiddle to fit but they work wonderfully well. Of course, it's only after you fill the shelves that you work out where you should have put them!

Regards,

Adrian

Lets see latest purchase was a custom set of decals for one of my 1/72 B-26 Marauder’s. It will be done as “Gunga Din”

Custom set of decals that cost me a pretty penny ($60) but well worth it to get something no one else makes. Added to this I was gifted a set of 3D printed bits for the 1/48th Tamiya M8 HMC.

After working down in the Smoke since last weekend this is my first chance to sit at my screen and reflect on my SMW purchases.

After viewing some amazing models it only inspired me to build more, all I need is a time machine. I was aware of the stash that Wonderland models became the recipient of so with a wish list that was my first port of call and it turned out to be a masterstroke. Although currently in the early days of my current WIP, I am always on the look out for new inspiration. Well, I ended up with a ruddy great box that should come with a free house;

54142458560_0b539390e1_b.jpg

I have still not figured out where to put it when built, a common problem I believe with this kit. To go with it I needed these;

54142277053_6dac1842cb_b.jpg

Now for the research I needed this;

54142322444_115d84ee43_b.jpg

This is a superb book for the modeller with many internal pictures and a rich text full of informative subjects. If only all books were like this.

Can you have a B36 in your collection without a B52....nah!

54142322529_1d3822a298_b.jpg

and;

54142277608_0e61c77afc_b.jpg

As I like climbing mountains these caught my eye;

54142458715_064cd74595_b.jpg

54142322554_6b5ffa12c4_b.jpg

I have been waiting patiently for a while now for all those items above and got them for a good price, way better than evil bay.

To round it all off some tools to tickle the plastic;

Now to build the house extension.

A DK Decals 485 Sqn sheet in 1/72. And to go with it, an Eduard Spitfire IXc Profipack for the princely sum of NZ$13 from Moje.

I also bought one of the Molotow chrome pens- really nice to use, the hype appears to be justified.

Loot from SMW 2024  I picked up some nice things from SMW last Saturday.  Firstly, the bits and pieces;

Top Row; B-25 turrets from Falcon Vacform, (Via Hannants) together with 2 pairs of 20mm German cannon barrels from Master Model for a project I have in mind.

Middle row; Barracudacast wheels for the airfix 1/48 sea fury; Barracudacast cowling and exhausts for the 1/48 Airfix Sea Fury; and British WW1 wicker seats in 1/48 for the Copper State 1/48 Sopwith Doplphin.

Bottom row; SMS and AK "desert pink" for an Op Granby jaguar (1/144) and Tornado (1/72) flanking an Airfix medal, which I bought with the Airfix badge. Also missing is the bottle of  Deluxe Materials Clear tint Masking magic fluid, which I bought on impuls to give it a go.

smw3

Then I also acquired  Magic Factory MRZR D4 ultralight vehicles (from Hannants), which I read a review of in Airfix Model World and they seemed like a fun build;

and an Italeri Mirage III E, which I actually won in a raffle by Phoenix Aviation magazine!

smw1

Then these fell into my hands;; you'll remember I bought Barracudacast wicker seats for British WW1 planes?  I did buy the dolphin kit first, from the Copper State stand for what seemed to me the remarkably good value price of £15, compared to £30 odd from Hannants!

The little 1/144 F-14 I picked up to go with the other US fighters of the 70's to 00's, the F-15, F-16 and F-18 all in 1/144th.

A large mysterious brown cardboard monolith appeared on the doorstep. I touched it seeking enlightenment, but only saw some runes on it.  Some of them I could just about interpret (  "Avro Vulcan" ,  "B2. Black Buck" )  but others made no sense at all  ( "Made In India" )......

Just picked this up for next years B-24 STGB.

Very nice. I have one of their other B-24 sheets (Pt.3) just clearing customs as I type, they look to be very well designed. Don't think I can wait until the STGB though! Planning on building 'Pistol Packin' Mama' as I've been interested in the 15th AF lately.

I have two builds, the one above and an RAAF B-24 for ANZAC. One will be on wheels the other hanging from the office ceiling as a nod to my youth.

Had a term deposit mature this week. It’s mainly inheritance from Dad, so a few items have been researched and wishlisted for quite a while.

Ive been designing some woodworking projects, including a dollhouse for my four year old daughter, so the first purchase was a new Black and Decker table saw.

341453xlg.jpg

The next purchase was a Siser Juliet vinyl cutter. From what I’ve read the resolution is a bit higher than equivalent Silhouette or Cricut machines, and it was heavily discounted.

BP80592453-bright-white.jpg-SPOTWF-produ

There are demos that almost look laser cut, so I’m hoping it’s more than enough for 1/72 code letters, maybe even serials. I understand the software is limited, but I’ll be creating vectors in Adobe Illustrator / Affinity Designer anyway (I do this a lot in my day job) so that’s not an issue here.

Also bought a bunch of materials for the above. 9mm ply, some dressed timber lengths, doweling etc, as well as some vinyl.

Needless to say, my wife was quite excited about the Siser once she learnt what it can do and has been planning little design projects for me to work on!

Well, Telford 2024 was thoroughly enjoyable for me, but my wallet is now pulling a vacuum. I'll start with the smaller items, and work my way up, starting with a couple of Eduard etched sheets for an M4A3 and an M51, plus a pack of paint brushes.

s3UUpRm.jpg

Next, a couple of Masterclub sets, namely Stuart T16 and Sherman T54E1, a Wee Friends camnet, and a reel of non hairy string.

h0gupaK.jpg

On the book front, I found this one on early IDF armoured cars. It's full of photos, many of which I've never seen before.

wboyryY.jpg

And on to the kits.

A very nice little IDF truck

koAQ1dC.jpg

Border Models Crusader ll

DaT52Jw.jpg

Another Dragon Sherman lll

GHRfyRm.jpg

A Trumpeter IDF Ti.67, which is basically a Tiran 5, so this one might get built as an SLA version.

o2WXD38.jpg

And finally. This was originally priced at £160, reduced down to £136, and I got it for £130. I have in mind a project, which will take a lot of researching and hunting for parts, but hopefully, I want to build it as an IDF M51 Degem Gimmel.

They also had the other version with the T66 tracks, which was about £15 cheaper. No reason that I could see, as the kits are identical, apart from having different tracks, but the trader wouldn't bring the price down to match. Hey ho! Some you win, some you lose.

p8LJXdL.jpg

And to go with the 1/16th Sherman, some stowage, and tow ropes. The ropes are rigid, but I intend to cut the eyes off of each end, drill them and then make up my own tow wires, and glue those into the holes.

Goodness me! Have they started providing shopping trolleys at SMW? Some big hauls going on there. Good to see happy customers (and happy traders).

It was a case of making frequent trips back and forth to the car. The boot was quite full at the end of the day.

Same here, it was a case of getting orders, dump with wife, as she decided to sit in the cafe area for a bit beforehand. Wander round getting bits and bobs I wanted. Dump all in car, go for lunch... Charge car whilst eating (EV so always a case of charge car whilst charging bodies....) and then head back for round 2, which was the just "have wander round and take pictures" phase.

 This month's books have started to arrive. Gone overboard (see what I did there?) for age of sail. A 'mythbusting' look at life in the Eighteenth Century Royal Navy which contends that conditions aboard weren't all that bad,  and a three-volume set of apparently academic but readable political and socio-economic histories (stop yawning at the back) rather than blood and thunder 'Let's kick Johnny Foreigner's butt', I thought they might compliment Ben Wilson's excellent 'Empire of the Deep'...we'll see. Anyway, this month's order is quite a biggie; more takes on the wooden walls of old England en route...

A Matchbox Percival Provost from Canada via ebay & a copy of the Wingleader photo archive #22 N A Mustang in RAF service, by @ColFord, safely delivered by my mate who has come out here for the next 6 months rather than freeze his cojones off in Scotland, least, I think that is what he said. :D

Still in the process of trying to organize some of the mess that is my hobby room/man-cave, I purchased 3 mini tool boxes from Lowe's, a home center chain here in the States. I bought one of each in 3 different colors: blue, black, and white. I passed on the pink, hot pink, and lavender ones. One will be for my paint brushes and supplies, one for my nippers and small tools, and one for my sanding supplies, such as files and sanding sticks. They were $19 each. 10" wide, 6" deep, and 6" high. They will tuck under the shelf on my peg board.

100_0519

You will notice that the white one does not have a lid. Rest assured, it did when I purchased it! The lid has a series of metal loops on the bottom which insert between the loops on the top. A metal rod the passes through the loops, forming the hinge. I used a pin punch and drove the rod out about an inch, grasped it with pliers, and finished removing it. The lid was now detached. A slight bend in the rod allows it to be re-inserted, but provides enough friction that it won't fall out on its own. I plan to do the same for the other two. This will allow me to use the top space for larger items, and I won't have to pull the box out from underneath the shelf to put something in the top.

100_0520

I also picked up some black tool drawer liner material. I'll be making liners for the drawers and tops. I do plan on saving the lids in case I should some day wish to re-install them.

Today’s purchase was some hardware store washi tape- I thought I’d see if I could work up some serials in 1/72 for a Hurricane project I’ve been researching. After some tweaking the Siser was giving some very good cuts, and managed 8” serials. That’s 2.8mm high.

My head is spinning with the possibilities afforded by homemade masks of this size!

Here’s another cut with the inverse removed:

Funny you should say that. I did notice someone headed back to their car with one of those fold up four wheel trolleys that people use for festivals etc.
