CedB Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Thanks for the recommendation guys. Just bought 'Down Cemetery Road' on Kindle. Can't wait for the TV series - I do have Apple TV (smug, sorry) and I do like Emma Thomson and Ruth Wilson, obvs. You could do a free trial when it's launched and then cancel when you've watched it? When it comes out. 3

Just finished a series called Criminal Record with Peter Capaldi and Cuss Jumbo, it was a very good watch. Its good value for under a tenner a month, no ads plus you can share it legally with up to six family members. 1
AdrianMF Posted March 12 Posted March 12 I just can't resist a high tech bargain: Delivered for well under a tenner all in from the 'bay. A Latvian manufacturer from the 1990s. Set aside for the lesser known manufacturer GB later this year, if I can resist it that long! Regards, Adrian 12

hairystick Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Today's purchase, an airfix Hunter FGA9 (Tower Bridge boxing) in the Correct Scale of 1:48th. Oddly, after pricing up a few kits from the Big H, it was cheaper to purchase locally. So much for "bargains off the internets" malarkey. 2 1

So much for "bargains off the internets" malarkey. in general terms, I agree with you, I usually - but not always get a discount off my LMS which especially if I’ve bought a couple of kits certainly makes them cheaper than buying from Hannants, ie no postage and a bit lower than the H’s price, but Hannants isn’t a discounter, except when you pre order you get 10% off. One thing I’ve noticed is that Hannants often don’t do certain manufacturers, eg Gecko, so I get those from the LMS - no chance of comparing price to Hannants. And the opposite is true - Hannants do a vast range of manufacturers that my LMS couldn’t possibly stock. I’m not sure about Jadlam, Wonderland or Antics if they discount much, but I think we’ll all find prices going up across all suppliers, internet, shops or shows.☹️ 1

Regards, Adrian Another interesting kit from the interwar period Adrian 👍 I tried to build this many years ago. It’s a nice kit and looks like the real thing, however: I have a memory of failing, terribly, with the wing struts and especially, Cabane struts. I’m still not very good with that kind of thing and, also had no jig or Lego. I just thought that I would mention it before you get stuck in. It beat me, but looking back, a jig or some Lego and all might have been ok 👍 Looking forward to seeing you build this. Great era 😊 Best regards T
TonyTiger91 Posted March 17 Posted March 17 I’m rather fond of Vac form kits. Also; they are easy to post and postage costs tend to be quite low. I have been looking for this kit for a long time; just over ten years. The Aeroclub Comper Swift vac form kit in 1/72. My apologies for the poor photos. I will try to improve. I would like to build the aircraft flown by C A Butler in 1931, when he broke the existing world record with a flight from Biggin Hill in England to Darwin, Australia. I’m very fortunate in that Arctic Decals sell a decal set for this very aircraft 😊 Hopefully to be built to represent this aircraft: Incredible that one could fly such a tiny aircraft so very far. Best regards to all and happy model making TonyT91 6
CedB Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Ooh, Comper Swift! I met the niece of the designer once. Admirable, building your own aircraft! 1

PhantomBigStu Posted March 21 Posted March 21 (edited) Picked up an italeri phantom for the 80's gb plus a paint for the build, also had a problem with some other paints that were over thinned so wanted to pick one up to try and save in a mixing pot, being a wally knowing I only had one mixing pot I picked up both.....fortunately on closer inspection the second only needed the top excess watery paint drained and the rest is now usable.....only now I have a two of them, as for the first the mixing pot worked and now the double mixture is usable again.....not a fully fruitful trip, had hoped to pick the new airfix eurofighter up as well but couldn’t find it on the racks so it must have been sold already Edited March 21 by PhantomBigStu 2
Mr T Posted March 22 Posted March 22 A trip to Halifax secured the KP Avro 504K 'Comic' nightfighter. Inspection of the kit shows that the covered front cockpit is catered for by some 3D printed resin and a rather nice propeller is also included. For some reason, two packs of the resin extras were included. Not that I'm complaining. Yesterday an Aeroscale M52 kit appeared. Reality kicked in with the purchase of a new Strummer. The old one was becoming unsafe as the power cord was wearing through (which I could have replaced) and the guard has broken, with a couple of other bits if body cracked, so thought best get rid of it. 2

Whofan Posted March 22 Posted March 22 (edited) Although I paid for this in January, I wasn't able to print it off till today; So train tickets purchased for the trip to London, hotel booked and paid for, and ticket for the concert. Corsairfoxfouruncle Posted March 23 Posted March 23 (edited) Just ordered three kits as I got a bit of a boost economically yesterday. I bought all three for group builds the first is for the Mossie build. It is the 1/72 Tamiya Mosquito NF.II/Mk.Vi Fighter-bomber kit. I have Norwegian 333 Squadron decals coming from a friend in Texas as this is also a gift for my brother-in-law who is of Norwegian descent. The second of three is for the A-10 group build. I opted to go with the more expensive kit rather than spend on A/M decals. The last is for the ANZAC build, It is the Academy F4U-1A Corsair. I have a Birdcage kit as we so will do a USN USMC build at the same time. Last but not least is a custom set of decals from @Rob de Bie in the Netherlands for a special build. I bought two copies on for myself and one for a member that has done me a very nice favor a couple of years ago. This is my way of saying thank you to him. I will post a photo after he receives his copy of the decals so as not to ruin the surprise for him. Whofan Posted March 23 Posted March 23 @Corsairfoxfouruncle Excellent wish I could go, are they touring or is this just a one of concert ? They play a concert at the week long Teenage Cancer Trust concerts at the Royal Albert Hall each year, this year they are playing two shows. I've been to most of the TCT concerts, thought there is speculation ( as usual !) that this will be their final year. If it is, then I went to the first one in 2000, and the last one in 2025. Roger Daltrey is touring the UK solo this April, and doing some shows in the summer at open air venues, but interestingly, the Who is playing two shows in Italy in the Summer, which does suggest at least an European tour is in the offing, and maybe some other British dates. They last toured in the States in 2022, so it is entirely possible they'll tour there this year. 2
Head in the clouds. Posted March 23 Posted March 23 I doubt this won't make anyone jealous but I have purchased another pointy thing that goes bang at t'other end from evil bay. I seem to be going into some sort of fiscal breakdown at the moment which is taking me into some sort of time warp, the ratio of time over kits bought is going in the wrong direction. I need to be reborn in the 80's. Any how, this is what made my sterling flutter out of my wallet; Still sealed too so I know the parts count is right. 5 1

Raaver Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Been a modeler for over 30 years now and been to the UK for years. But only yesterday I had the opportunity to make a box tick and let my wallet be afraid…. I went to Lowestoft. Boy was I impressed. Walked away with a Hasegawa F18e VX-31, sova-M T-1A and A&A Tc-12. Is stuff, I know, but happy with these… Robert 3

A box arrived yesterday from China via ebay with a Vespid Aussie Centurion in it. The moulding of the kit looks superb. The plastic filled the box & the box filled the postage carton just nicely. Why the heck can't all kit manufacturers manage to do this. My recent X-models purchase of the Electra was reasonably well packed, a corrugated slip cover in a padded bag but the kit occupied barely a third of the volume of the kit box, like really? Guess who pays for the extra postage on these oversize boxes? Steve. 1 1
