Enzo the Magnificent Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Yep... it's that time of year again. So... what have been your greatest triumphs this year? And how many projects have been banished to the Shelf Of Shame? 2
Ghostbase Posted October 13 Posted October 13 KUTA 2024 - Autumn must officially be here then 😉 My greatest triumphs this year have been building ancient kits that most other sensible scale modellers would have sold on a certain auction site or donated to charity shops. The Shelf of Shame looks quite healthy:- HobbyBoss 1/48th FJ-4 Fury. Put it all together in a hurry then realised I really should have painted many key parts beforehand. Stalled! Revell 1/72nd B-1B 'Bone'. An amazing amount of plastic which requires an amazing amount of filler. Tried the awful kit decals too. Stalled! Revell 1/48th Convair B-58A Hustler. Build using kitchen foil. This is one of those inspirational 'bucket' builds which can take years. Ongoing project. ESCI 1/48th IAI Kfir C.2. Was a Britmodeller group build, airbrush paint application went very horribly wrong. Stalled! Revell 1/32nd F-104C Starfighter. Another Britmodeller group build, just didn't get started. Not started. ESCI 1/48th A-10A Thunderbolt II. Built as one of the prototypes, has reached the decalling stage. Ongoing project but a bit stalled 🙂 Revell 1/48th Republic F-105D 'Thunderstick II'. Started but was awaiting Caracal decals. Which have long since arrived. Stalled. My excuse is that I have moved house this year, am currently in an interim flat/apartment, hopefully move into a new house by the end of this year. At least I have six days to make up my mind 😊 MIchael 2
JOCKNEY Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Which of the "far too many" do you start with is usually the challenge of this GB 1 1
Corsairfoxfouruncle Posted October 14 Posted October 14 Let’s see from 2022 I have 5 mustangs, one spitfire (Mk.XII), one Meteor (T.Mk.7.5), one RF-4B and F-15C that were mostly finished in last years KUTA. All they really need is landing gear and antenna’s. Plus from 2024 Will have a possible M8 HMC, F-104J, F-86D, Hs.123, and maybe even a CAC Boomerang. 1 2
danbuoy Posted October 14 Posted October 14 Well, having just had my first group build failure, not finishing my Airfix Coastal Defence Fort within the D-Day GB, it can slot smoothly into this one (if only it would slot smoothly together!)! Thankfully, this is my only unfinished kit this year. 3

Indeed I'm surprised it's not the KUTA strapline- Come on people, it's time to Build 'em all! 3

Two for me (that I've remembered so far). The Shell Welder from the Frog GB, largely due to loss of mojo in the face of poor fitting, flexible parts. Hopefully, @Pig of the Week will get on board with his dredger version and we can sing sea shanties and cosole each other with tots of rum. Also Fokker Friendship as Air Anglia's G-SPUD which was just standard over-reach of starting a vac-form half way though a GB. Now the really tricky bit of trying to find long abandoned build threads. 2
Jinxman Posted October 14 Posted October 14 Errrr, I don't recall finishing a kit in KUTA, so everyone of my previous KUTAs is a KUTA. That said I will be finishing my 1/72 Harrier and Buckeye from the last Matchbox GB once the current Airfix GB has finished. Hopefully? Possibly? 😀 1 2

John_W Posted October 14 Posted October 14 Hmm, I must confess to having a few candidates for this one... 2
psdavidson Posted October 14 Posted October 14 I have a Revell Spitfire which needs to be completed, as well as the Alouette from the Baby Boomers GB 2
Andres Alvarado Posted October 14 Posted October 14 Ok being completely honest here is my list from the last two years, all in 1/72: From before I entered the GBs: 1.- GWH F-15I build, not painted yet 2.- Eduard Mig-21MF (x2) both build not painted yet 3.- Academy Apache Block II late almost finished paint 4.- Tamiya Mosquito decaled then realized decals were in the wrong position, I've found some spare recently, still needs some paint work to do. From GBs: 1.- Revell Hawker Hunter from the "I feel deserted GB" in Fach colours, build not painted yet 2.- Eduard Mig-21PFM from the "Baby Boomers GB" in Egyptian colours, painted, needs some touch ups before decals 3.- Academy A-37B from the "South of the Rio Grande GB" in Fach colours, build not painted yet Finished last year: 1.- AMK Kfir C2 in IAF colours 2.- Academy Ford GPA 3.- Bandai Tie Interceptor As you can see, I have plenty of material for this GB.... what do you think? Probably everything I've been working on will end up in a kuta of some sort, I've been somewhat preoccupied with 1:1 scale stuff over the last couple of months or so, and haven't butchered any plastic for a while unfortunately 1 1
Bobby No Mac Posted October 15 Posted October 15 In the words of Echo and the Bunnymen, spare us the KUTA! Alas, I've got at least two group build orphans from this year to shovel in, and perhaps another kicking around from last year. 2 1
RC Boater Bill Posted October 17 Posted October 17 (edited) For me, it is easy- my WW2 twins build of the Airfix B-25B stalled out while painting- Paint the gray; mask; paint the OD; mask and cleanup the OD overspray on the gray; mask to fix the gray; find spots where the OD missed; mask and paint; another round of overspray fixing, etc. etc. By July it was finally time to start clear coating and decalling. Lots of battles there, but it was then ready for a final flat coat and final assembly- where it has sat (un touched) since mid-August. My goal is to finish it by the December club meeting- hopefully the KUTA will provide the necessary push! Edited October 18 by RC Boater Bill Forgot to add the photo before! 3

dnl42 Posted October 19 Posted October 19 I'm going to rescue Accurate Miniature's 1/48 Gulfhawk II. Like the prototype, Gulfhawk II is F3F with F2F wings and other changes appropriate to an aerobatic aircraft. AM provides resin replacement wings, but they are badly malformed. I had tried to make new wings using Woodman's fine tuition, but I wasn't happy with my several attempts. Now I have a resin printer and improving Fusion skills. I already started on the 3D model of a new wing and am happy with the basic shape. 3
