Airfix 1/72 P-40B.  Done in the markings for Lt. George Welch’s plane, in which he shot down a Zero and a Val during the Pearl Harbor attack.   The standard markings decals are from the kit. The large “160” was painted, using a mask made on my Silhouette cutting machine.

Tamiya Tyrrell 023 F1 1995 Mika Salo 1/20th

Finally finished the Tamiya 1/20 Tyrrell Yamaha 023 from the 1995 season. Chose to build Mika Salo's number 4 car.

Not one of the regular builds of the Tamiya 1/20 series, but as I have collected them all over time, they all need building at some point.

Wasn't the best of kits and had a bit of fit issues here and there, but this is probably due to the kit's age in part as well. Decals were horrible, didn't want to conform and were splitting all over due to all the complex curves, so I bit the bullet and decided to paint the dark blue and use Indycals decals instead, that's why it ended up on the shelf of doom while I was waiting for decals, then got forgotten until KUTA came along.

Tamiya LP paint sprayed on the body and larger areas and Tamiya acrylics on the detail bits.

Not my best of builds, but it's done and in the display case with other Tamiya F1 kits, so that's another out of the stash

Ian  :)

Klingon Bird of Prey

AMT

The story started here and then moved on to here. The shape made it a sod to photograph, but this was the first time I used my DSLR for a gallery shoot and I'm quite pleased with the results.

The Airfix 1/600 Ark Royal, "finished" in the 2023 Not My Comfort Zone GB with one aeroplane and a dozen figures, now properly finished with seven more aeroplanes and around seventy more figures:

This leaves me with a dilemma: in my end of year stats, does this count as zero (I counted it as finished last year), one (it's properly finished now) or seven (aeroplane models built)?

Hmmmm...

Thanks for looking,

Adrian

This my1/72 Eastern Express ex Toko Pfalz D.XII, a late war German fighter which was built to supplement the Fokker D.VII which somewhat "overshadowed" it. There does not seem to have been much wrong with it when compared with the early Fokker D.VII but once the latter was fitted with the BMW engine it was undoubtedly superior to both the earlier version and the Pfalz. My build thread explains this in more detail.

The kit lozenge dec was useless so I ended up using some AM which may not be quite the correct colour for this particular plane.

And this is my 1/72 Eastern Express ex Toko SSW D.III. As explained in the build thread I had a few problems, including having to find a replacement prop, and the end result is perhaps not quite right.

It represents one that Ernst Udet was photographed in the cockpit of though at least one source (Eduard instructions) says there is no proof he ever actually flew it in action. Along with the Pfalz D.XII above it was a late war type that is not perhaps particularly well known outside WWI plane modelling circles.

Here's my 19 Sqdn. Gloster Gauntlet from Duxford.  I began it back in October of '23, so just over a year and it's done.  I'm reasonably happy with it as it adds another 19 Sqdn bird to the shelf!  Here's the original WiP...

Thanks for this.  Looking back, this is my second KUTA and it has been equally satisfying in a redemptive sort of way!  Happiest of Saturnalia and I'll see some of you later, midnight UK time, December 24th!

Here's my Pegasus Fokker D.XXIII.

This was a failure from a previous Blitzbuild due to the shocking fit of the parts then finally beaten by paint that stubbornly refused to dry, then it's piece de resistance, decals that exploded upon contact with water !

It's been annoying me ever since so I'm delighted to see it off the bench and into the cabinet at last.

I hope you like it

Cheers Pat

Tamiya 1/72 (60781)

Started this last Christmas in between GB's. Once the 2024 GB's kicked in it got sadly neglected. Glad to have it finished and in the display cabinet.

Rescued after being resident on the Shelf of Doom for over five years. Didn't take very long at all to complete.

It's an ICM Do17Z-7 in 1/72 scale. Reviving this build was prompted by adding their Do215B-5 to the stash.

My favourite part of the build was correcting the engines. Very pleased with the result.
