Beautiful work going on here, a model to be proud off, hope it has a glass case to protect those aerials

Hadn't thought of acupuncture needles...:hmmm:

Cheers

No self-respecting home should be without them!

I cannot claim the credit - @Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies first highlighted them.

I have 0.25 x 40mm though I think I would buy 0.25 x 30mm in the future.

Useful for an awful lot but primarily for accurately placing CA or PVA glue.

Look what happened when I reduced the end threads from 8 to 3, they lost a degree or tension and the whole length contracted🤬. Didn’t.t factor that into the initial set up.

HOWEVER😁

Got it back where it needed to be, they do match the spacer marks and are (relatively) square, that’s just the parallax on the camera. It is tensioned a tad more than I originally planned though, think I will have to go with this for the other 3 so that I don’t get massively different tensions on the opposite sets.

Yes i suppose that makes sense, removing the strands at the end means the ones in the middle will pull everything in more. Hopefully your definitive guide to cage aerials will include this so the rest of us can factor it in if we're ever crazy enough to attempt them.

Have been using these to trim off excess line, works quite well if you apply max tension.

Trying this method now (under same tension) and if you are careful you can get a ‘tighter’ trim. Off to t’ internet to see if there are a pair finer clippers that will allow closer access 😁.

Thats a smart way of getting the lines in position. Those aerials are looking really good (as is the rest of it)

Stunning work, i hope you're going to put it under glass to protect those aerials !

Thanks. Hadn’t considered a glass case, not thought how much it might cost or where to source it.

You can get ready made ones but if you're handy (as you obviously are) you can make them yourself. There are companies that will cut perspex to size (example simplyplastics.com) and cornwall models sell lengths of framing with routed grooves that you can use to build a frame. I think the one i made for Lancelot cost about 40 quid in total, expensive i suppose but when you've put so much time into something it would a shame for it to get damaged etc.

Excellent work all round but the aerials are a work of genius

It might be worth asking these folk about a display case.

I echo sentiments above, you have produced a superb result, and those aerials really set the ship off.

Just noticed how clean the Boot Topping is, so going to add some wear and tear here before she goes on the base.

Right, finished, on base a bit more weathering and a few extras added. Will be posting more pics on RFI shortly.
