Some touching up needed to the railings. How does everyone treat PE so that it retains the paint!!!!

Doh!!! What I really meant was …….. how do you all prep the PE and what sort of base coat is best!

I prime with a rattle can before i attach them but tend to add the final colour once they're stuck down. ALso a good idea to wash them as i've often found the primer is reluctant to stick and suspect its residual chemicals from the PE process.

A gentle clean with a solvent, I use white spirit. I used to prime them, but found it could clog some of the finer detail. So now I just spray them with the ship colour/colours, then once fitted touch up any areas where the paint flakes off and where the part was attached to the sprue.

I've tried pickling with warm vinegar as well as priming with Mr.Metal Primer. They do help but aren't foolproof.

Lately, I've been lazy and just clean with IPA once properly formed.

Made up the second (of 4) aerial sets, only took 4 hours😜. So fo a break I added the anti torpedo nets and tried adding some cabling for the sponsons for these using my cut price version of @robgizlu’s Metalkasten. There are 13 sponsons on each side so this will be a protracted job.

Looks OK to the naked eye.

Just noticed, the ‘D’ has gone AWOL! 🤬

Yeah, I noticed that too. Was it molded on? I also noticed that the anti-torpedo netting looks very good. I'm wondering how I can scratch built the stuff in 1/600 scale.

Regards, Jeff.

Looking really good but i think READNOUGHT doesn't have the right ring to it ! Hope the "D" turns up.

Nope, it was photoetch, individual letters🤪

Finished the rear port side of the cable and detailing on the torpedo net sponsons, a bit shiny but I am planning to dull it down and a coat of Matt varnish at the end should help.

This is getting boring so I aim to finish the port side then go back for a shot of the third run of cage aerials.

Been away from the workbench for a few days so decided to just ‘potter about’ a bit, fitted the main armament, deck mounted 12 poundeers, anchor chains and some davits.

Going back to the starboard side cabling for the torpedo net sponsons next, then the awning stanchions.

Note the lovely clean work mat 😁😁😁😁. Give it a week.

Doesn't it just? @Harrysgrandad is doing a superb job with this, and that cutting mat - oh so clean!

I had trouble finding a superlative that wasn’t already co-opted by the RN as another ship’s name (Majestic, Superb, etc.)  🙂 I settled on regal, which seems to be untaken. She is looking quite regal and every bit as stately as the real thing. And I echo the comment on the effectiveness of your shading.

Best,

.   .   .  and so unnatural. Get some clutter on it! 😁 HMS Dreadnought on the other hand is looking superb. With that oh so clean but unnatural uncluttered cutting mat behind her I thought she was moored in a harbour.

All four sets of aerial runs now threaded,n ext step is to set p a rig so that I can ‘tie off’, fix the spreaders all in the correct length/position.

I have finished adding all the deck extras and shelved my plans to add the awning stanchions (just running out of steam now and want to move on to a new build) plus a blast of Matt varnish to hide all of the nasty shiny/CA bits. Can’t decide whether to fix the aerials before or after she ‘goes to sea’, base is just waiting for the top layer of Liquitex to dry and then see if it needs any colour adjustment.

Base is a nice piece of hardwood (don’t ask me what it is😝) I pinched from my father-in-laws workshop decades ago. This is a bit up market from my usual bases so I might invest in a posh nameplate, suggestions please for the best source for this.

Started on fixing the aerial sets, spreaders are positioned and fixed with a small amount of diluted PVA, applied with @robgizlu’s ubiquitous acupuncture needles.

Rob, really glad I purchased them on your advice they have come in useful in a variety of different ways (not just applying CA)😁.

Will let the PVA set then tie off each end.

Ends ‘tied off’, will rearrange the fixing order on the next one and tie one end off before I fix the adjacent spreader in place because doing it this way round it was the devil of a job to get the glued spreader to sit ‘square’ because of the slightly different tensions on the Uschi  line.

Off to take the grandkids swimming now so this will sit there and cure till this evening when I plan to ‘thin out’ the number of lines leading from the gathering point, . . . at each point I wonder . . . ‘is this where the whole thing goes south’😜.
