Harrysgrandad Posted November 11, 2024 Author Posted November 11, 2024 My dry dock is paying dividends with the rigging and also a plus for the ladder on the upper foremast. Just turned her through 90 degrees to the vertical and rested the ladder in place, then a few drops of PVA and capillary action did the rest! 9

Especially given that I was acutely aware that everyone there had to squeeze everything into a single day, where I could casually waltz over to thinks on the Sunday. It sounds like this is very much one of those builds, where every part conspires to become a big issue that needs correcting. I'm sure all of us can relate to that discovery of parts that, despite meticulous dry-fitting, reshaping and planning ahead, suddenly don't fit when the critical moment arrives (usually just after we've applied glue to all faces!). It makes it all the more impressive how well the results appear on the outside to be turning out, and I'm sure all the more satisfying when you do overcome the issues. All that horrific looking interlocked-masts funnels and raised decks looks fantastic. Sea base looks promising too! Andy Likewise Andy, I think a day was probably enough for me, my old legs were playing up on the drive home, didn’t t relent until the second large Scotch😜. Thank you for your kind comments, it’s probably not as bad as I go on about, I’ve been told I’m a bit of a drama Queen👸. 1
theskits62 Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Thats looking very good and the dry dock is a really good idea.
Harrysgrandad Posted November 14, 2024 Author Posted November 14, 2024 Added more rigging to the upper foremast plus signal halyards. I think that’s probably as much rigging in these areas as I feel up to doing, looking at my reference material I could not imagine getting anywhere near the amount of rigging etc that this ship has. Next, I plan to add boats, and final deck details, plus booms and jibs then stop and take stock on her general appearance. Also looking at adding a representation of the (stored) anti torpedo nets (suggestion please😁) plus their holding brackets (plus maybe some more rope/wire work here), railings and stanchions and wires for deck awnings if I can keep the enthusiasm going. THEN - the cage Ariels!!!!!!!!!🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪 Oh - and the main armament 😜. Hi @robgizlu, help please, the metalkasten wire you use, how fine is it? I was thinking of using it for the stays on the torpedo net outriggers. 14 1
Ray S Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 That rigging is awesome, great work. Cage aerials will be fun - I'll be trying to do some on a 1/600 kit soon. I hope all goes well with your attempt. Ray 1
dnl42 Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 I'm sorry I missed this til now. This is excellent work. And this rigging? O.M.G. I've got the shakes just looking at it 1 hour ago, Harrysgrandad said: 1

Stay Safe beefy Hi Beefy ‘great minds’ etc. I was thinking maybe shoelace of some sort. Will have a look in the missuses spares box. We also have a local crafty/needleworky type place, might put on some dark glasses and a hoody and have a quick nose around in there, see if I can find something that will work. 😎🥸😄 cheers Graham 3

They seemed quite effective. Jim Baumann was the modeller, he is brilliant. Hope this helps, Ray 3 1
Harrysgrandad Posted November 15, 2024 Author Posted November 15, 2024 First piece of PE railing in place, it’s from the Eduard set and it’s really, really thin and fragile, major touch-ups apres fit😝. 10
Harrysgrandad Posted November 15, 2024 Author Posted November 15, 2024 Oh and for those clumsy B_____s amongst us, i am the worst! Only 3 major repairs to the fore mast and 4 to the main mast whilst I was adding the rigging, then the ladder came off the fore mast as well!!!!!!! 2
Harrysgrandad Posted November 15, 2024 Author Posted November 15, 2024 After seeing @Faraways latest Agamemnon post, I decided to fit the boom to the foremast next. It has this piece of PE on the Eduard fret which is so thin and fragile. if this fails I will just add the kit boom and maybe a few cables, there are so many bits of rigging etc in this area I think I might escape with the bare minimum. 6
robgizlu Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Hi Graham re: Modelkasten wire - it comes in 0.06, Very thin - see the aeriels on LCH 168, 0.15 and 0.3mm. It's up to £30 a roll!!!!! If you check my HMS Severn - the boat lineon the port side is 0.3mm HTH Rob
Harrysgrandad Posted November 15, 2024 Author Posted November 15, 2024 Hi Rob Thank you. Approx how much do you get on a roll? And if I weaken, where do you get it from, directly from their site or from a retailer? Cheers Graham 1

Cheers Graham Hi Graham 5m on a roll - hard to believe that I've nearly got through one I buy mineon Ebay - There are Not many sellers making me think that it's no longer being made. I have some winging it's way from Japan (hopefully) as we speak HTH Rob 1
Harrysgrandad Posted November 16, 2024 Author Posted November 16, 2024 Tried to add the PE rig for the boom but the layout of the rig meant that the boom was lower than the aft funnel and the spread of the signal halyards meant that I could not move it far enough aside to allow the boom to pass down the side of the funnel. So —- cut away all of the cables from the PE and just added the pulleys etc to the boom and mast then fixed the boom in the position I wanted it and added the missing cables from EZ Line. It will pass muster if I squint! 18
Tegethoff Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Looks fantastic. I'd never have realised if you hadn't said. 1
Harrysgrandad Posted November 18, 2024 Author Posted November 18, 2024 Boats for me too Jon, but not quite as many😁 12 1
Harrysgrandad Posted November 18, 2024 Author Posted November 18, 2024 Made up all of the cable reels in the Eduard pE set, only use 2 or 3 of them, rest go into the spares box. 11
steve5 Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 (edited) lovely work , especially the rigging , I think the boom looks more natural now . Edited November 20, 2024 by steve5 1
Harrysgrandad Posted November 20, 2024 Author Posted November 20, 2024 Added the coaling derricks and a bit more rigging, checked out the cabling for these in the AOTS reference, not going anywhere near that! 5
TeaWeasel Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Looking over all the rigging and railings reminds me why I shelved the KGV and moved onto subs! Fantastic work all around!
