And there was I thinking a 1/350th scale kit of Yamato was enormous !

appreciate the comments guys ,

there are 28 of these little guys , but somehow I have lost 2 bottoms , which is making things awkward ,

will leave it to the last where I will have to improvise something .

the sights will be bent into place when they go on .

Some incredible work there. I started the 1/200 Nelson a while back and quickly got frustrated with the PE sets, mainly as there was no pattern or consistency to the PE instructions, wouldn't even know where to begin on a Yamato. Glad to see you've soldered on with it, looking forward to seeing the final result.

Looking great so far, what a size!!!!

I feel so sorry for these massive warships, I know they are there for a deadly purpose, but there's something 'nice' about them. Sounds weird, I know.

Not weird at all! They're fascinating and impressive ships.

Flipping 'eck! Is that a model, or a canoe??

I'm looking forward to seeing this progress. That's going to be a very impressive looking ship!

I really like your build. Etched parts well processed and a clean paint job. 👍

I'll stay on board, especially since the monster is still slumbering in my camp.

Looks fantastic. Really respect how you get such consistency of finish across such a massive model.

thanks guys , I just realised , that the boats must all be stowed away below decks . I mean why put them in the kit . so I spread them out on the deck .

just so you can see them , I mean I made 16 of them . it.s just for display purposes , what do you guys think .

the first photo is from the book showing them stowed below .

Yes, the boats were all stowed below decks in the boat "hangars" as shown in the drawings to protect them from blast from the main armament. The larger boats stowed in the wing hangars would be lifted and dropped diectly into the water using the overhead travelling trolley beam crane, the smaller boats in the inner hangars would be wheeled aft on trolleys and lifted outboard with the main crane. Boats could be stowed temporarily on the aircraft handling deck using the main crane, either directly on  deck or on trolleys onto the rails and moved about on the rails. There were foldable davits along the ships sides forwards and aft, the smaller open boats dropped in the water by the main crane could be manouvred under these davits and hoisted to deck level and turned inboard with the davits, but they wouldn't normally be stowed on deck away from the davits as you show them on the foredeck.

Another alternative would be to mount the model on a base, and display some/all the boats and aircraft on the base in front of the ship, maybe with nameplate, description etc?

They're supplied in the kit in case the modeler wants a diorama, I think.

thanks gentlemen ,  I kept looking at it and it didn't just look right , might do what dave suggested , the ships over big now  , I would hate to see the size of the diorama . 😁

starting on the crew , I ordered 200 , there's 100 here , see how I go with this lot first , spacer.png

Only about 3000 to go, should keep you busy for a few days. 😁

I take it you'll be including the cruiser Yahagi and the eight destroyers? 😁       Or maybe not. 🙂

As @Dave Swindell says, the boats had to be protected from the blast of the main guns. It'd be a shame not to use them, they look so nice. Maybe have some at the aft end of the ship and use the others elsewhere in a dio at some later time. But I don't think I'd use them up forward in this case. Your decision of course.

The ship herself is looking awesome. I really must do her myself, someday. You've inspired me.

Regards, Jeff.

You need a lot of them to make it credible on a battleship, I'd say at least 400. 😅

Here 200 for the moment..

I'll have to double the contingent because I've only got them on the starboard side.
