ArnoldAmbrose Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 G'day @steve5, welcome back. I've been wondering where you've been. I see that you've decided to ease back into the hobby gently with a nice simple build. 😁 I'll certainly be following your progress. Regards, Jeff. 2 1

S-boat 55 Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 (edited) I've just invested in Very fires 1/350 Yamato so i shall follow along for inspiration Good to see you back, Edited October 11, 2024 by S-boat 55 1
Quimp Slattery Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 At first sight of the photo I thought you were inside the box! 😁 Well it is a very big box. How long does it take to build something like that or Hood?
steve5 Posted October 11, 2024 Author Posted October 11, 2024 the hood took about 2 and a half weeks, and the yamato , should be between 6-12 months I would imagine , I did the missouri and the bismarck in 10 and 9 months respectfully 2
steve5 Posted October 12, 2024 Author Posted October 12, 2024 started on the stern , and putting in the cart rails . 9
Iceman 29 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Good to see you back in business, Steve, with such a big baby! It's going to keep us busy and attentive for several months, if not years! 1 1
steve5 Posted October 13, 2024 Author Posted October 13, 2024 thanks iceman , I need some help , does anyone know if the yamato had any of those eyebrow things around her portholes , as I found some in my spares box , was going to put them on ,and thought i better make sure first .
ArnoldAmbrose Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 1 hour ago, steve5 said: I need some help , does anyone know if the yamato had any of those eyebrow things around her portholes , G'day Steve, according to drawings in the 'Anatomy of the ship Yamato', YES. But there aren't any photos in the book that show the scuttles/port holes. I've only got drawings to go by, which are a good indication but not proof. HTH. Regards, Jeff. P.S. - one photo, bottom corner of page 29 seems to show them.
ArnoldAmbrose Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Further to the above, they seem to be part of the port hole frame, a more prominent lip on the top half of the rim, not a separate item attached above. HTH. Regards, Jeff.
S-boat 55 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 (edited) If I may add, Yamato much like other of the most recent Japanese ships of WW2 had almost all design and maintenance documentation related to her destroyed prior to Japan's surrender. So many of the drawings out there are best guess really which doesn't mean they're wrong but they also can't be taken to be 100 gospel truth, that does also mean that it's hard to be proven wrong with what ever you choose,..... Steve have you had a look online at the Yamato museum model it looks like it has the eyebrows and some armour covers fitted https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/62/Yamato_model_AA_guns.jpg/1280px-Yamato_model_AA_guns.jpg HTH beefy 1

steve5 Posted October 13, 2024 Author Posted October 13, 2024 thanks guys for your response , I'm a real feather head , when i bought this kit about 3 years ago I also bought the anatomy of the ship yamato . 🫣 and completely forgot I had it , thanks to jeff I'm now going through it . on page 115 it clearly shows them . 1
Bigdave22014 Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 Don't know if this'll help, but there is a group on BookFace for building the 1/200 Yamato. Might be some useful info / tips on there. 1
