Familiar 'readers' will know that I've largely focused on aircraft for a number of years, with one or two exceptions. This year and part of last year I started to build a number of 1/35 and 1/72 AFV's, largely as a result of being a Volunteer at the Tank Museum in Dorset. During the school holidays, a number of us build and display models to the public, normally AFV's (for obvious reasons) but sometimes, other model subjects.

I completed this model during the summer and have only just photographed the completed model.

This is my rendition of the Italeri M24 Chaffee, finished as a US Army vehicle from 752 Tank Battalion, in immediate post war Italy 1945.

Decals were from Star decals.

I used Vallejo acrylics (mixed colours to get an OD colour I was happy with) on a black primer surface, weathering with oils.

The only modification I made to the kit, was to cut off the moulded top edge of the side skirts from the track guards, as I wanted to show these removed. I also added some stowage using some resin aftermarket parts.

I didn't take too many pictures during construction, but here are a few:

Next up as RFI's will be two 1/35 M41's (one AFV club and one Tamiya), both currently undergoing final weathering and detailing.

Thanks for looking.

Lovely work Terry, looks fantastic, love the weathering. Think it's about time you done an AFV WIP and you can reveal your techniques.

Thanks Stuart, high praise indeed. At the moment the MAZ Tank Transporter WIP is my only AFV WIP so when I get to paint, I'll try and show which techniques I've copied! There will be others. Lots going on!

Thanks John. I was pretty pleased with the OD, but didnt note the mix ratios so a bit hit and miss!

Well now Terry you certainly built that quicker than your Vosper.

Looking very well weathered.

Hi Terry,

An excellent result with the small tank, I don't know if it's exactly the same item, but I made one from Italeri when I returned to the hobby, although in the end it was in winter white.
It didn't turn out as well, maybe better after seeing yours, I'll try again.

Cheers

Thank you Francis. It is the same kit. Italeri have been producing this one for some time. According to Scalemates, first released in 1984 and re-released a number of times since then, sometimes with new parts. Mine had a metal gun barrel, but I lost that and had to use an aftermarket one. Mine also had link and length tracks consisting of one length on each side, and scores of links!

It also looks like Tamiya released a version in 2015, again from Italeri moulds. Good luck with your next build!

Cracking job Terry - nice to see that Museum rubbinbg off...:clap2:

Thanks Rob. Yes, being at the museum is rubbing off a lot and I'm enjoying a semi break from aircraft, although some are still on the go (gliders and the Museum build P-51).

My museum build time project at the moment is the giant MAZ, which you can see in the link below in my signature. That one will take some painting!

Nice work on the M24! You've done a great job with the weathering!

I'm working on finishing up a Tamiya M41, myself. I went with the JGSDF version.

Thanks. The JGSDF version was one I considered, but in the end I've gone for a Taiwanese version (Tamiya) and an ARVN version (AFV club).

The pictures shows both in final stages of painting/weathering. The AVRN version (top) has yet to be weathered and still requires turret MG, aerials and vision ports painted. The Taiwanese version (lower) is in the middle of weathering and then needs aerials and turret MG fitted.

And below is an M41DK (Danish) that I finished some years ago.

Great work on the older kits. The finish of all of them is top work. Coincidentally I have just finished the build on a Tamiya M41 yesterday, but seeing yours this morning has made me realised I have gotten the mantlet cover wrong, which has put me in a quandary as to whether to start again on it, or cite artistic licence. Your work is extremely good. 🏆

Thank you Neil.

Re the mantlet cover on your M41. Not sure what you mean by getting it wrong, as definitely for such things there is no common single, exact same solution I would say, and certainly on all my AFV's I do use a bit of artistic licence. I would just go with what you have, and move onto the next build. Can we see your M41?

Thanks again

Thanks Johnny. The build is one of several I'm doing (no WIP) largey being built during my display shifts at the Tank Museum, although all painting and weathering are done back home.

I'm quite enjoying trying out all the weathering techniques I'm learning from folk on here (inc you!) and various online tutorials.

More to come I promise, including that giant MAZ which does have a WIP here.

Terry

PS Don't tell the "others" I'm not building aircraft at the moment!
