OK, I've got a weird problem. About two or three days ago, BM page loading time increased to several seconds, but only if the page contains photos hosted elsewhere. The thumbnail avatar photos attached to accounts load immediately just like they should. I have a high speed Internet connection, and I've only noticed this issue on BM. I cleared out all my cache, deleted cookies, logged out and back in again, etc. but the issue persists. I'm guessing the problem is on my end somewhere, but I'll be darned if I can think of anything. Has anyone noticed anything similar and if so, how did you fix it?

This morning, upon entering BM for the first time today I got a pop-up message asking me to accept a certificate. Never seen that before. I thought maybe I've been hacked, but all malware scans come back clean. Color me perplexed.

Cheers,

Bill

postimg seems to be a bit slow loading at times at the moment, not noticed issues with any others

Not sure why you got the certificate warning, the BM cert checks out OK from my browser

@Navy BirdBill,

You've done what most folks do and the only other thing I've done is to go into my router and see what devices are attached. I have found that after clearing and turning off the devices I can turn off I've found three that I can't turn off. I have a security system, solar communication system and a Roku that can't be switched off. After finding those I disconnected each one at a time from my network. Then I found the solar comm sys. was updating over the network at a different time than originally scheduled. The company did an update that changed that. Contacted them and they set it back to the original time. Everything was fine after that. So far the updates for the security system and the Roku and now the fiber modem have not been an issue.

Sure this doesn't help your issues but may help to search further into your network.

A lot of it is down to the pictures people post, we ask them to limit the size, but I noticed the otherday someone put pics up that we 5MB each, now thats excessive.

We try to let people know if we spot it but ultimately we cant be held for this.

Thx

I've noticed it being a bit slower than usual, but most noticeable for me is that the initial page comes up pretty quickly, but then it takes a bit of waiting for it to jump to the first unread post.  Sometimes it "seems" that it never does, but that may be because in the meantime I've done something that interrupts the flow.

Update: It appears that "everything else" loads reasonably quickly, then there's a wait for the "large print" Britmodeller.com banner top left (with roundel and "Bringing modelers together...") to show up.  Very quickly thereafter it jumps to the next unread post in the thread.

I hadn't noticed that before, but that is what's happening for me as well. I thought it was the photos in people's posts that were holding it up but maybe not. The banner background (with the Spitfire and the four category icons) appears right away, but the roundel and the large text Britmodeller and slogan are absent. After several seconds, these appear (in a brief flash) as the page zips down to the first unread post. You're a genius @gingerbob. Now, what is causing this weirdness? It was fine one day, and the next day it was weird.

@Navy Bird this sounds similar to what I experience whenever I have files downloading in the background. BM will take excessive time to load pages, as soon as I pause the downloads lo and behold BM loads fine.

On some other forums there is sometimes a form of limitation to the size of images it will display, or is that when they are hosted by the site rather than provided by an external link?

"error 522"

Hi,

I have got "error 522" many, many times during last weeks.

In addition to that there has been the following information:

"

If you're the owner of this website: "Contact your hosting provider letting them know your web server is not completing requests. An Error 522 means that the request was able to connect to your web server, but that the request didn't finish. The most likely cause is that something on your server is hogging resources."

Thanks to the site administrators for this morning's reboot of the hamsters. I'm still having the same issue though - there is about a 7-10 second pause waiting for the roundel and big Britmodeller banner text to appear. Or, the pause is due to some other issue that is delaying their appearance (which may be an effect and not a cause). Dang. I've tested on all my devices - PC and laptop running Windows 11 Pro using Firefox and Edge browsers, plus Android and Apple smartphones both running the latest OS versions. Everything is up to date. They all exhibit this same weirdness.

@scautomoton - I have nothing downloading in the background, no backups or routine malware scans running, etc. I whitelisted BM just in case that was causing a problem but it made no difference.

Bill

And, just like that, the issues disappears! I told you I hate computers!

Except the server isn't running IIS.
It runs a certain Mr. Torvald's project.
