Phantom F-4J. VF-84 "Jolly Rogers" (1/48)

Recommended Posts

Latest off the bench is the Academy F-4J in the markings of the Jolly Rogers USS Roosevelt 1972.

It's the Academy kit so is well documented about its faults etc. Building it could have been more pleasant.

Any way on to the pic's. The last 3 show the Hornet and F-14 also used by this squadron. Sort of an un holy trinity.

Please feel free to comment etc.

Thanks for looking

Dick

Nice one Jenko, I've said it many times... who doesn't love a Phantom?

I remember seeing UK based Phantoms head out over the north sea when I was a kid, on holiday.

Your build is inspiring me to get a move on and get stuck into my ZM F-4G Wild Weasel V.

Congratulations on a really good looking and very well completed build. 👍

Whats next on your to do list?

Watto.

All three are superb, what a fabulous set of Jolly Rogers! Probably my favourite US Navy markings along with the Sundowners.

Looks great. What are the problems with the kit?

It's not shake and bake. Cockpit is basic with no decals. 3 coloured plastic is not to every ones liking. White being a pain to work with. Fit in some areas was poor due to how the plastic had cooled after injection.

However if you can pick one up at a good price do so. It looks the part.  Zoukei-mura is half as much again in the UK and twice as good by comparison in my view.

Great Phantom and inspiring collection! I never realised that the Super Hornet is so large in comparison with the F-4.

Nice one Jenko! Love your Phantom. It’s inspired me to have a look at getting my Monogram F4 off the SOD and finished. I like the clean look too, excellent result mate.

Cheers - Karl
