That’s a bit on the ludicrous size, so won’t be helping the load speed one iota :owww:

Make that 1024 x 800 or absolute maximum of 1280 x 800 (or 850), as the majority of users are still probably on 1080p monitors or phones with similar widths in pixels. Only the filthy rich with 4K screens would benefit from much larger images, but only if they have super fast internet to go with it, as big pictures take more bandwidth. When the forum has to shrink pics down, it puts unnecessary stress on the server.

Another reason that pics don’t show up in-line on the forum is that they’re not being hosted securely. If a pic’s URL starts with http:// it’s not secure. The forum software won’t display it for that reason.  You want pics hosted with URLs that start with https:// that are secured with SSL, or Secure Sockets Layer in English words :)

For me at the moment it's why can't I see images posted on onedrive that other users on Britmodeller can learly see.

It's not image size specific as a random check of a couple of other posters images show they are clearly well within the size guidelines

And it's not SSL as the onedrive host sites all apppear to be HTTPS://

It doesn't appear to be bandwidth related, as I can stream stuff fine and this happens whether I'm streaming other stuff or not

It appeart to affect all images hosted on one drive, or should I say, I can no longer see any images from users that I know have have switched to using onedrive hosting -

It doesn't appear to  be browser related as I can't see them in either Firefox or edge

It doesn't appear to be ISP related as I can't veiw them at home (vodafone), work(BT), family members (italk) or on holiday recently

So I can't work out what the common denominator is

There could be a permission problem. I've absolutely seen that.

It's also best if the URL points to a simple image file, e.g., ends with ".jpg", ".png", &etc.

In both cases, I could understand if nobody could see them, but with onedrive, some people seem to be able to see them just fine and others can't see any of them

It's consistent with a permission problem. It does not mean it is the problem, just that it could be the problem. OneDrive is a cloud-based file hosting service. A key feature is data security. You surely don't want every file on OneDrive available to anybody that has the file's URL.

In any event, I don't have a OneDrive account.

Peace.

If it were a permissions problem, nobody (with the possible exception of the OP) would be able to see them, but this isn't the case, some people can, some can't.

I’ve found image issues stem from me not being signed in. When they don’t show I’ve usually been signed out of my account. That on my IPad which is usually how I’ll browse britmoddler.

I can't get Onedrive to give me a link that has the "embed" bit at the start but I've had a bit of a play and come up with these different URLs for this image.

The link for this is https://db3pap002files.storage.live.com/y4maRI18-rKwXzZaHQad2kXudu8izhNHmipRDdFdfDMptNaqxcTZVWyWszuyXqIWz6AyObIC4ZSG3sQlxlqeWxh-EnEDSz043V-2epeRJRVRUCxMS_3MGjqGrq0V9hdOSk1oJQElR94fJRGzDD6EbybelJ_bH-_OdBVQzNSmphGKQNDQ94rQsJXJqi61gKbYY_ygDI9dZT4LxnM6_SuLBVBb_FKuBljkK9w5oJD7Qixd1k?encodeFailures=1&width=1148&height=398

y4maRI18-rKwXzZaHQad2kXudu8izhNHmipRDdFd

This one only shows as a link https://1drv.ms/i/s!AmkhfgEItT3dpjEBIFbGo-N4JnQi?e=Mbk1mQ

This one shows as an image https://1drv.ms/i/s!AmkhfgEItT3dpjEhvGPK4ez7V5rP?embed=1&width=1148&height=398

Alex, I'm seeing the same as Pete.

What are you doing different for the one that show up for us in that post?

Just FYI, I tested from my work PC. I know that Onedrive is blocked by corp firewall (as is dropbox and some of the image hosting sites)

I now see the same result as @PeteH1969 from that browser

The storage.live.com images posted by @Alex Gordon work

Not a fix, but maybe it will help identify where the issue lies

Some photo host have persistency problems too.  Google's offering (can't remember the name right now) doesn't retain the URLs for very long, as it's not really a photo hosting platform, and that's similarly the case with other Cloud services, so watch out for that.

All four links point to the same image from the same source. The first one is using the Embed option in the menu opened by clicking on the three dots in the taskbar across the top of the page which usually works reliably.

The second one which doesn't show is the Share link in the same taskbar.

The third one which does show is right click on the image and copy image link in the menu that appears.

The fourth one whichdoesn't show is the Copy Link button in the same taskbar.

I've just tried it all again and it's given me four different links from the last lot.Good game, good game.

There are also a number of new image formats such as .avif and .webp, and Apple's proprietary HEIF. If your browser or phone doesn't support these you'll never see them. and those formats are usually imposed by the hosting platform when serving them, so even if you submit a .jpg it will be presented to the viewer as whatever the serving site uses. Almost all google images now come as .webp Check your browser for supported formats.

Yes, difficult to determine what the problem is, further complicated by a bit of a discovery from my end - I was doing some work on my slightly older desktop which I don't usually use for browsing Britmodeller which I do on my laptop - the desktop doesn't have as good a wifi connection so generally doesn't get as goood a connection speed, but I decided to try looking at this thread and hey presto I can see these problem onedrive images on the desktop (work went out the window as I checked out a few other threads I'd nissed out on, all the onedrive images showed up fine on the desktop but still won't show on the laptop which connects to the same wifi hub/router and hence same ISP connection. Both computers use the same up to date operating system (Windows 11 Home) and Firefox signed in to the same account., so apart from the physical hardware there doesn't apear to be anything different in the setup or connection, yet one shows the photo's, the other doesn't. :headbang:

Hmmm.

I'm on a laptop,Windows 10 Pro,Firefox 130.0.1 .

On your desktop can you see four images from those links or just two as I can?

Just 2, I got the impression you'd intentionally posted as 2 links and 2 images?

This is getting silly to just post an image.

For clarity (I hope!):-

What I see on the desktop and I what I thought you intended to post from your description

2 Links - ie a clickable file path text link that takes me to the image in a new window/tab

2 embedded images where the image is desplayed inline in the post and the text file path isn't directly visible

On my laptop I see both links (which work), one of the embedded images (top one) and another text link which doesn't work (lower  one, opens a pop up window with the broken image icon in the middle)

From your last post I gather the intention was to post 4 embedded images? (OK, the same image, but 4 times using different methods)

Have you tried this?

And use the direct link option?

Pete

I use that all the time Pete,

I'm not specifically trying to post via onedrive, I'm trying to work out why I can't see images on my laptop, and work out whether it's due to my laptop setup, the method that the images are being posted, or a combination of both...

I generally use one of several photo hosts so that I don't suffer a repeat of the Photobucket game and Onedrive is a backup store of everything,if I have cause to replace permanently failed links in a post they can come from there. It also gets around any quantity limits on free hosting.
