PeteH1969
Why are pictures in threads not showing? Is it the site, the picture hosting site that are the problem or the way they are being posted? Lets have a but of mesh on it. and some dials for the new Instrument panel, just dont look too close at em. And some wheels instead of the ones below. So, out with the drills, files and cusswords and off we go.

Alex Gordon
Quite frequently it is a problem at the photo host end.As long as the link URL is correct the image will show up eventually. The host server only has a certain capacity to process requests, much the same as the 500 error that we keep seeing, and will only release when it can. Some photo hosts seem to be having ongoing problems doing this,IMGBB being one of them. The first image in the thread you highlighted, which showed up straight away at this end,is hosted on Onedrive which is likely receiving hundreds of thousands of requests from all around the world every minute. It'll take a very powerful and rapid operation to filter and enact all of those. Then there are the images that have temporary URLs,Facebook and Google Images being prime providers of those, which only show up for a few hours and the images that have been removed from the photo hosting site which will never show up again. PeteH1969
All of the images I cannot see are embed-ed images maybe that has something to do with it? Pete
dnl42
OneDrive, Facebook, Google are just not good photo hosting choices. I keep my online photos on Google Photos, but copy them over to postimages when I want to post an image online.
Alex Gordon
I've just had a look at the whole thread, all photos are showing at this end.
Bullbasket
I believe that sometimes it's down to the size of the photos. If they are very large, they eventually show, but take a long time to open. I keep mine down to approx. 960x600. John.

PeteH1969
Why should you need a one drive account that should not make a difference just to see the images in a thread, it's either the site or the format the images are in that is the problem causing the error? Dave Swindell
3 hours ago, PeteH1969 said: Why are pictures in threads not showing? I don't know, but you're not alone. People seem to be posting photo's from the likes of One Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox etc which are viewable to some people but not others. A month or so ago I couldn't see any photo's posted from onedrive when browsing in Firefox, but I could see them when browsing in edge, however now I can't see them in either. I have a onedrive account myself, but logging in to it doesn't make a difference to whether images show up in threads or not. The images are there, as I clicking on the links downloads them (but doesn't show them in the browser) It appears to be a growing problem which is affecting my enjoyment of browsing Britmodeller, there's now quite a few contributors whose threads I used to enjoy who I now don't bother looking at as they are pointless without being able to view the images. Perhaps @Mike would care to comment? 2

Pete Unfortunately it won't - as you've quoted the post if the reader isn't having the problem you and I are having the will just see the photo as normal, you'd need to pst a screenshot to show exactly whatyou are seeing As per below shot, where my mouse hovering over the first embed link shows the full image link below, revealing it's a ondrive image

PeteH1969
It may say enlarge image but even that just leads to a black view of nothing no image if the reader cannot see anything than it's not working properly and needs sorting. Pete
Dave Swindell
I've also just noticed that the first linked photo is a massive 8000 x 6000 pixels - don't know if that is any factor in images not showing for some people?
PeteH1969
The biggest posted images should be 1024 x 768 and they will show on anything whether a posting service is used or not. Pete

Pete If I click on it, it downloads straight to my hard drive, not what I want - image is 2.9mb FYI, far too big for this IMHO 1

That’s a bit on the ludicrous size, so won’t be helping the load speed one iota 7 minutes ago, PeteH1969 said: The biggest posted images should be 1024 x 768 and they will show on anything whether a posting service is used or not. Pete Make that 1024 x 800 or absolute maximum of 1280 x 800 (or 850), as the majority of users are still probably on 1080p monitors or phones with similar widths in pixels. Only the filthy rich with 4K screens would benefit from much larger images, but only if they have super fast internet to go with it, as big pictures take more bandwidth. When the forum has to shrink pics down, it puts unnecessary stress on the server. Another reason that pics don’t show up in-line on the forum is that they’re not being hosted securely. If a pic’s URL starts with http:// it’s not secure. The forum software won’t display it for that reason. You want pics hosted with URLs that start with https:// that are secured with SSL, or Secure Sockets Layer in English words

Mike
23 minutes ago, PeteH1969 said: So how can the problem be solved I’m in my iPad at the moment, and the pic is loading fine for me, but I can’t remember how to look at its properties from iOS. It could be an issue with the internet, your broadband/mobile data or anything tbh, and if the pic is indeed massive as someone suggested, it might appear not to load if your internet is/was chugging for some reason, even something like another family member is streaming a movie, especially at 4K. You also need to put the manual for your 43" screen away 1

If a pic’s URL starts with http:// it’s not secure. It's also best if the URL points to a simple image file, e.g., ends with ".jpg", ".png", &etc.
