Planebuilder62
Hi there I would like to build an F-14 in the present blue and grey colour scheme. Does anyone have any advice on which colours to pick? I have access to Mr Hobby, Humbrol and Xrtracolor. Regards Toby
Hook
According to my Hi-Decal instructions, these are FS36622 light grey with FS35450 blue grey. HTH!, Andre

MarcB
Be aware that those colours tend to fade a lot after some months of service MB
iainpeden
I think I used the same blue as on the Mirage 2000 grey/blue scheme on a Phantom I did in that scheme. PS love the last shot with the F-4 about to get on the tail of the Tomcat - check 6!
scotthldr
Where on Earth do they get FS36622 from it’s not even close. FS36373 would be my choice , although some photos show it looking as dark as FS36270.

The colors quoted in the various decal instructions referenced above represent the blue 35450/gray 36622 scheme when it was newly applied. If you look up photos from that timeframe, those FS colors appear to be a good match (the same colors have also been used on at least a few F-4s, MiG-29s, and Mirage F.1s so looking up those types can give you a better sense of the "real" paint colors). The photos posted by @MarcB show the same color scheme but after it had been in service for some time and shows heavy weathering - NOT "fading" though, as most of the airframe is noticeably darker/grimier than the base colors, reminiscent of a US Navy TPS scheme toward the end of a cruise. Comparing the top and bottom of the radome on the first photo illustrates just how much darker the "dirty" areas are. As with virtually all subjects, everyone will have their own interpretation of how to represent this on their models, but 36622 and 35450 are a good starting point "pre-weathering." 1
