Another quick project completed, although it was quite a struggle :headbang:.

The kit is awful. Primitive to a fault and the Hasegawa's forms probably come from the Edo period. Unfortunately, there are not too many options available if you want to build a Folgore in 72nd .

The model required some scratch building, a few PE parts (mostly in cockpit, so you can't see them anyway), an air filter from Aires and undercarriage elements from Airone. I don’t remember where I get a Venturi tube from.

So here it goes: Macchi MC.202 Folgore of Tenente Giulio Reiner (MM7823/73-7), 73ª Squadriglia, 9° Gruppo, 4° Stormo, August 1942

Please enjoy and comment at will.

Cheers,

Marcin

Very nice model and competent photography.

Captures the essence of this beautiful design as if it were pictures of the real thing.

Excellent modelling.  I have always liked the look of the Folgore, for me the most aesthetic of all Italian fighters in WW2.

Thanks Colin and I totally agree. Folgore looks like Ferrari among FIATs (nomen omen :))

That is REALLY excellent! I recently built that very kit, and FULLY appreciate your travails! Very fine job with the pics too, thanks for posting. You might enjoy checking out Airone Hobby's P.1001 propeller - a big upgrade over the kit one, and would be a quick'n'easy way to make your lovely build even better.

These beautiful aircraft are absolutely at the top of my "deserves a better 1/72 kit" list!

If this kit gave you problems, you cannot tell from the very excellent build and finish you achieved.  It just looks great.  Thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much. And I would really appreciate if some respectable company could release this magnificent aircraft instead of another P-51.

Great model of the major Italian WWII fighter!

Interestingly the model comes from the Hasegawa golden age when they created a lot of models that are still best on the market. And interestingly Italeri also failed to make a good model of this aircraft. So the market niche is still wide open...

Great work really. The weathering is on point and the photography too. It could easily pass for 1/48 or even bigger.

All very true! Even those old 1/72 Hasey kits which have been surpassed by newer efforts are mostly convincing looking, and easy to build - often MUCH easier than the "improved" new kits. Their Fw 190's are a personal favorites!

Having recently built the C.202, IMHO the basic shape is accurate, with a few minor exceptions; but being one of the earlier kits of that Hasegawa run (1992), details are severely lacking. And the Italeri kit is little better. I highly recommend the excellent aftermarket bits from Airone Hobby: propeller, landing gear, seat, early supercharger intake, and late enclosed wheel wells.
