as much as i want more (good) kits in this scale, i can see that for a given amount of resource, you are going to make more money in 1/72 and 1/48 than you are in 1/32... 1/32 is a much smaller market, and a MUCH tougher crowd; stuff you can get away with in 1/48 just doesn't fly in 1/32.

so once you consider this, it's quite a big jump for Eduard

I just hope they have been looking at Tamiya and especially Kotare - who have really raised the bar in terms of engineering and fit - rather than thinking they can get away with just scaling up their own stuff from 1/48.

I have seen enough builds of their P-51s in 1/48 to know that's not just good enough in 1/32 scale. I have zero interest in adding shims in wingroots and teeny weeny locating joints for main landing gear.

on the other hand, commercially it makes sense in that there is no decent kit of this marque and - if comments translate into sales - it's the one variant of the one plane that everyone has been clamouring for in this scale

I wish them well with it and if it's decent will probably be in for a couple

I fully agree.

I hope (and think) Eduard realizes just scaling up their 1/48 kits won't work.

Better engineering is needed, it's been their weakness.

The kit will be based on their existing 1:48 Mustang. I don't think their weakness is engineering, although everyone may imagine something different by that term.

Whatever may come it’s got to be better than the ancient Revellogram 1/32 P-51B/C that is 55 yrs old. I love Revellogram kits but Eduard have to better than this ?

I assumed they'd gotten out of 32nd!

They did state that once.

This is not true. The amount of money they will make depends (i) on a number of variable inputs (ii) margin and (iii) opportunity cost. To take the P-51B, Eduard has already invested in research, CAD and other design elements duch as decals, so that's cheaper than a wholly new kit in 1/48. If the net margin is say 10% on both 1/32 and 1/48 then that's £8 vs £3 if one kit is £80 and the other £30. Having covered Spitfires, 109s, 190s, P-51s, Zeros and P-40s, and with all the other major (market) WW2 fighters done well elsewhere now, another 1/48 kit would necessarily have a smaller market, so opportunity cost is small. As for engineering, I've heard nothing about shims for the wings? And a P-51B doesn't compete with a Spitfire. It competes with the other P-51Bs.

Jan Bobek (Eduard):

"Some people assumed, based on just one page of Vlad’s E-day 2024 presentation, that the 1/32 P-51B would be a 2025 release. It’s not. We are working on it now, but it won’t be ready by 2025.
In our opinion, the 1/32 P-51B is a fascinating subject and an iconic WWII aircraft. Sales of this kit will help us determine whether we should focus more on the 1/32 scale in the future."

Well, I'd be surprised if this kit does not sell very well indeed. Eduard + Mustang = Licence to print money.

Today Mr. Sulc wrote on Modelforum about the following 1/32 scale models:

"Just one new project a year is too optimistic a vision, I would see it at best one project every two years, maybe even three. On the other hand, these will be very variable projects with many subtypes, so several kits will come out of each project. Given that we will be selecting from the most successful projects like the Bf 109 F/G/K, Fw 190 or Spitfire, it will be 10 or more Profipacks. But what's next after the Mustang I don't know myself, I'm leaving it open for now."
