Tamiya spray paint banned in Canada

To me, this sounds nothing more than a bureaucrat coming out of their hole and stumbling on a can of Tamiya spray, then turning this into some vendetta to justify their job. And not surprising, since Canada's civil service has increased by over 30% in less than ten years.

Just an observation.

I feel for the spray bomb users, I know a lot of modellers who use nothing but. I think the RC car modellers are going to be hardest hit, because the Tamiya spray for polycarbonate car bodies, outsold any regular sprays in the hobby shop I worked in, even with Faskolor available for airbrushing, most used the spray bombs. I don’t use them very much at all anymore because I have an arsenal of airbrushes. I have a booth and proper mask and nitrile gloves.

In my time spent spraying 1/1 aircraft, autos etc. exposure to VOC’s etc. was taken very seriously, and even after something is finished, it can still gas off for days, and if you walk into a garage or hangar that is closed and not well ventilated you are still inhaling things that are harmful to your health. I’m not surprised about this ban and I’m sure they will start on others.

My family was in auto body repair and painting for decades, my father was one of those guys who never wore a mask and it cost him his life. “Na I don’t need no stinkin’ mask”.  My brothers and I all gave him good masks and they hung on the wall covered in dust! He contracted stage 4 cancer through his whole body, only then did he realize why. Sobering yes, but also a good lesson.

Cheers

Jeff

I wonder how the ban on spray cans will affect the professional or custom made ranges of spray can paints :)

If they can provide risk assessments and method statements, they will probably be okay. There are a lot of aggressive chemicals used in industrial environments but the Employer will have to take that on board (and payout if they don't).

I'm guessing this is purely for consumer use. You don't spray a real car, tank or aeroplane in Tamiya paint after all. 😉

Yes, this is a regulation covering the consumer use products, not for the manufacturers.

And no, no where near Make Canada Great Again. But I have witnessed people who think their job is the most important job in the world.

And yes, take precautions when using any chemical. My work involves Jet Fuel, believe me, I know the deadly and long term health consequences.

Happy modelling.

But this is it. While you are dealing with jet fuel your job is the most important thing in the world, when I deal with hospital gas, ventilation, decontamination, critical power and heat that is my most important job in the world.

It's not unexpected that others take that view? Would you think I should just think 'Meh' over medical oxygen delivery or surgical theatre air extract because a patient is a bit miffed?
