I have been working to expand my model making interests and have participated in the M3/M4 STGB and now the M3/M5 Stuart STGB.

I got to thinking ( dangerous that ;) ) and wondered if or when there was ever a STGB for the Churchill tank. A quick search found nothing but perhaps I didn't dig deep enough.

Anyone interested in a Churchill STGB?

cheers, Graham

Put me down.

I've built a number of different tanks but never a Churchill, so I could put that right.

Nor have I hence the thought of a STGB.

I have added you to the list.

If and I do mean if by some miracle you get into the bunfight and through that I will build something (time permitting of course). So yes you can add my name to the list of hopefuls. Sadly I tried 3 times to get a British armor group build off the ground. The first two were strictly MBT themed the third was going to be anything armored split into two builds. Early from the Great war to 1945. The 2nd was 1945 to present. Three times to the bunfight and three straight failures so I gave up the concept to anyone else interested. Not enough interest to beat out other builds in the bunfight.

Indeed.

AFV group build popularity generally suffers and ship group builds are non existent.  Occasionally AFVs and ships might fit into other broader group builds and of course we do have the occasional AFV group build for those very popular subjects such the Sherman and Tiger.

Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Absolutely, sign me up, I love a Churchill! I wanted to propose a Churchill GB but don’t have the time to run one so glad you have proposed one. I’ve got plenty in the stash, probably do an AVRE.

There was a half track GB a while ago, but unfortunately AFVs are usually underrepresented in GBs.

I don't have a Churchill but please put me down as I would love one of those bridge laying versions

'tis true, unfortunately.  Perhaps we need to make more noise ;)

added to the list, welcome aboard.

I rashly acquired an AFV Club Churchill but I think a Tamiya kit would be a better option for an entry level Group builder to start with. Sign me up, Colonel

depending on the dates I would be up for this - give me a reason to finally buy one of the AFV kits

Scalemates tells me I have 3 in the stash, Airfix, Revell (ex Matchbox) and AFV Club

I'm already overcommittted for GBs to support, but you can add me to the list too

Done.

First step is to get into the bun fight and any AFV group build proposal needs all the support it can muster.

time to make a bit of noise to see if there are any more interested builders of Churchills.

Anyone else?

Any suggestions of how to stir up some more interest going for pre and second war British / Commonwealth AFVs ?

Maybe expand the GB to British Infantry Tanks so Matildas and Valentines could be included as well?

That is a good idea but then it wouldn't be a STGB or would it?  STGB British Infantry tanks? hmmm maybe,  I will have to ask @Enzo the Magnificent

There were four different infantry tank designs built by three different manufacturers, none of which were developed from an earlier infantry tank.  Therefore an Infantry tank groupbuild would have to be a full GB.

A11, Tank, Infantry Mk I, Matilda I:  Vickers-Armstrong

A12, Tank, Infantry Mk Mk II, Matilda II:  Vulcan Foundry

Tank, Infantry Mk Mk III, Valentine:  Vickers-Armstrong

A22, Tank, Infantry Mk IV, Churchill:  Vauxhall Motors

The advantage with a full GB would be that other vehicles such as the Archer, Bishop, Valint and Black Prince could be included.  Maybe even the A20.

@ColonelKrypton I’d suggest sticking with the STGB of just the Churchill as you need fewer sign ups and less competition in the bunfight.

It would also be worth advertising it in the armour section as has been done before to get people who frequent the GB less often. I know there has definitely been chat about building Churchills in various threads in the last year so worth a punt to try and get the numbers up.

With service life from NWE and North Africa then on to Korea and so many specialist vehicles based on it I think the Churchill could sustain a STGB in its own right. Signups will be the ultimate test of course.

Good idea, I had not thought of that.  Done.

Agreed on both points.

The first point is what makes the Churchill an interesting subject.

Doesn't ever appear to be as popular a subject as yet another Sherman or Tiger or Panther or Sturmgeschutz ( etc ) but deserving nonetheless.
