Don't have a kit yet but thinking some sort of British Honey in the desert. Doing some research first but will edit this thread once I know what I am building... Maybe the airfix/academy kit as the base

Some great options there, the one with the 18pdr in place of the turret would make a very interesting model.

Found the Emhar 18 pdr.... Might be an option....

Hi Rob. It's great to have you taking part in this GB and I hope you manage to find a suitable kit and decide on what version you'd like to make it as. I'm looking forward to following your progress.

Kind regards,

Stix

The venerable (or is that vulnerable) Academy kit has been secured for this... Next thought is do I look to get the Emhar 18pdr.... I think it needs to be done 😉

I don't know if you have access to the Osprey book by Steve Zaloga, but in it, he builds a very similar model. If you wanted any of the info in the book, I could PM it to you.

Ok you lot... Emhar 18pdr purchased. Will rake a bit of work to make it look more like the one in the photo (for example it has no sight) but I will be building the SPG Honey with 18pdr

The caption in the pic I have in one of my books (Chamberlain and Ellis)  says that the wheel axle was still in place, though not of course the wheels, which fits with one of the posts in your thread.. Looking at one of the other pics in that link suggests that the "pole" type trail (assuming it was the Mk II carriage not the Mk IV) was in fact retained as well and that like the German "5cm sIG33" on the Panzer I chassis the entire artillery piece less wheels was just plonked on top of the hull in an improvised mount. The later Mk IV carriage had a revised "box" trail like that on the 25 pdr to allow increased elevation and that would probably have been in the way on this vehicle.

Cheers Pete. The 1 build I have seen of this version sounds exactly like you have described. I will use the Emhat kit and modify as much as I can to match what I can see. I have also noticed what looks like a tarp "tent" sticking up at the back... Assume allows them to cover the whole vehicle over the top of the gun - May see what I can do with that...

anyway, big step forward yesteday, the Academy kit has arrived....

Hi Rob,

I know Emhar made a kit of the 18 pdr in 1/72 as I have one, but  I had forgotten they did one in 1/35 like the Stuart kit - I would imagine they could be difficult to find, but I gather you have got one. so good luck with your build. They seem to have done duplicates of most of their WWI kits in both 1/72 and 1/35 except for the Mk V tank which was I believe just in 1/35 unfortunately, and the A7V which was only in 1/72.
