New 1/48th kit coming soon from Tamiya:

- ref. 61127 - Lockheed-Martin F-35C Lightning II

Description:

Tamiya is proud to have received overwhelmingly positive feedback for our F-35A and F-35B kits in our legendary 1/48 aircraft series and military aircraft collection. We hope our aircraft fans will be happy to welcome another variant of the F-35 Lightning II, the F-35C, to our 1/48 aircraft series! Lockheed Martin's F-35 Lightning II is a fifth-generation fighter developed under the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, successfully offering extremely low observability, network connectivity, and exemplary situational awareness. Developed to replace the Navy's F/A-18s, the F-35C is designed for use with catapult-assisted take-off but arrested recovery (CATOBAR) systems. Larger wings and horizontal stabilizers than other F-35 variants help it land more slowly on aircraft carriers, while its wingtips fold upward ninety degrees to allow for more deck space. The F-35C has a rear arresting hook that catches the arresting cables on the flight deck, slowing it and allowing for a landing in the confined space. Additionally, the F-35C's nose landing gear is connected to the catapult shuttle via its hook for catapult-assisted takeoffs. Along with the F-35A and F-35B, the F-35C will lead the way in air defense around the world for many years to come.

Model Features:

• 1/48 scale plastic model assembly kit.

• The distinctive shape of the F-35C fuselage, which has larger wings and horizontal stabilizers than other F-35 variants for slower landings, is authentically reproduced. The model is assembled parked.

• The fuselage parts are newly produced, excluding the canopy and weapons bay door parts. • Fine reproductions of radar-absorbent material (RAM) are molded into the fuselage surfaces.

• Choose the parts to recreate: – Wingtips deployed or folded (parts can be swapped after assembly) – Fuel probe deployed or stowed on the right side of the nose – Arrester hook door open or closed – Canopy open or closed (parts can be swapped after assembly) – Weapons bay doors open or closed – Boarding ladder deployed or stowed • The leading edge and trailing edge control surfaces are depicted at the bottom. Parts for rendering the wheel chocks are also included.

• Features realistic renderings of the pylons (dedicated F-35C design) under the wings and on the underside of the fuselage.

• This kit also includes realistic renderings of the following sections: lower nose surface side details, Y-shaped air intakes, internal weapons bay details including wiring, cockpit and landing gear bays, engine nose cone (5-piece design), Martin-Baker US16E ejection seat, RCS (radar cross-section) boosters attached to the upper and lower sections (two of each, four total) during basic training exercises, but not in live action or more complex exercises.

• Choose to assemble the model in stealth mode (no external ordinance), air-to-air mode (missiles only) or beast mode (full ordinance).

• Includes various ammunition types: AIM-9X Sidewinder x2, AIM-120C AMRAAM x2, GBU-12 Paveway II x4 and GBU-31 JDAM x2.

• Canopy masking stickers and a realistically recreated seated pilot figure with helmet-mounted display (HMD) are included.

• Comes with decals to represent 6 marking options (4 from the US Navy and 2 from the US Marine Corps).

If history is anything to go by, we’ll probably get a 1/72 ‘C’ from Tamiya as well. I really like the ‘Hover’ optional parts they provide with the ‘B’ kit, so suspect the 1/72 ‘C’ option will mimic its larger 1/48 brother. Smart move all round I say

Cheers.. Dave

Oh wow Oh dear oh dear.

The idea of having an A,B and C standing next to each other is very, very tempting.

Having got the A and B for the previous two Christmases, it would be simply rude not to ask the bearded gentleman for this!

My good wife usually buys me my Xmas gifts… I’d better not call her that!

Finally some good food even though I don't do 1/48 anymore, we might see 1/72 in 2026 or better next year if we're lucky.

In the UK it's available for pre order from Jadlam. According to Tamiya UK and Hobbyco release in late November.

Any news on what decals are included more than 4 navy and 2 marine Corp?

Aren't they the only usersof the -C?

Yes but I'm on about squadrons they will have decals for

Probably all the current active ones, there’s only 3-4 US Navy and a couple of Marine units as far as I know. Perhaps a slightly colourful service evaluation scheme if one ever existed, my ‘C’ knowledge is fairly limited at the moment.

The model will be presented in Japan October 10-13. I guess we get pictures and info about the markings then.
