IanC Posted September 9 Posted September 9 This is my choice - at least it will be if I win my bid on eBay. I'm hoping no-one else here wants it (please, don't!! 😄) It's a bit long in the tooth but I have fond memories, so fingers crossed... 11
modelling minion Posted September 9 Posted September 9 How much is it worth for us not to bid? 😉 A classic kit that I built a few times in my youth, looking forward to seeing your build Ian. 1 1

Now, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I've forgotten myself, but given this is a crappy old kit from the 1970s, you've gotta ask yourself a question, 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?" 7
Mjwomack Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Hasegawa Mini Box, so exotic back in the day, loved them but never seemed to build 2 with consecutive numbers1 2
PeterB Posted September 10 Posted September 10 (edited) Built one of these in the day, and have one in my stash - may even enter it in the GB, though if I do I will use a different colour scheme even though there is no reason why we can't have two similiar ones if we wanted. Pete Absolutely. What I really wanted to do was the Matchbox 1/76 Stuart but I've not been able to find one. 1

PlaStix Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Hi Ian. I hope you manage to get a kit sorted soon! Kind regards, Stix 1
IanC Posted September 21 Author Posted September 21 Well, I've abandoned this idea as I can't get hold of the kit BUT I have something else in mind and I hope to post it up shortly. 🙂 3
modelling minion Posted September 21 Posted September 21 Sorry to hear that you have had to abandon this one Ian but I look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

IanC Posted September 24 Author Posted September 24 Thanks to the generosity of @PeterB my build of the Hasegawa Stuart is back on! The parts are typically sharp and free of flash, and the decals look good too. I'm looking forward to getting cracking on it in the next day or two. 🙂 The chap on the horse always mystified me when I built this kit as a lad. Was Hasegawa referencing the transition of the US Cavalry from legs to tracks? Or is he supposed to be one of the Philippine Scouts who fought alongside US forces during the Japanese invasion, as seen in this shot on Bataan? 9
PeterB Posted September 24 Posted September 24 I wondered if it was meant to represent J.E.B. Stuart? Pete 2 1
Bullbasket Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Glad to hear that this one is back on track. Look forward to seeing it's progress. John. 1
modelling minion Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Great to see this back on track Ian,as you say thanks to the generosity of Pete @PeterB, I have to admit that the inclusion of the horse is puzzling. 1 1

IanC Posted September 26 Author Posted September 26 Construction has begun (watched over by 'JEB'..) The chassis went together with no problems although the oversized trailing arms of the idler wheels needed a bit of fettling to get them to fit without fouling the rearmost roadwheel. The wheels themselves are moulded with solid spokes but I'm hoping a bit of judicious painting can create a more correct open look. The tracks were joined using a hot screwdriver. As for markings, I think I'm going to get the masking tape out and have a go at a British 1941 Caunter scheme. 10
IanC Posted September 27 Author Posted September 27 I've got some paint on - Portland Stone from my fast depleting stock of WEM paints. I'm now stressing about how exactly to do the Silver Grey and Slate, or even what the pattern should be. Looking at photos it seems there were many variations on the Caunter scheme for this vehicle alone. I've read that the SG was sometimes left off entirely. The masking looks tricky whichever, and I may just paint it by hand and hope a layer of dust covers up any wobbly bits! 11
