Potsie Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Oh wow. I really like the ways this has turned out; absolutely stunning! Really enjoyed the build process and appreciate all the detailed updates you have given us. It has been quite the journey. 1 1
SnøMotion Posted December 3, 2024 Author Posted December 3, 2024 Thanks, @Potsie! I've really enjoyed the design and 'engineering' involved in producing this, and also the build, but I'm ready to move on now! (Even though a second MX5 kit arrived this morning!) I feel like there were some big breaks in progress, while I was modelling some of the bits, or waiting for time to be able to, but I'm pretty happy with the overall result. The main thing I've learned is how much more fingerprints show up on solid paint colours! I've had a bit of a side project on, to fill in the waiting time, that will only make an RFI appearance because I started it somewhere between 1999 and 2003. So, now I'll focus on that and maybe build the Aoshima Brian James Trailers A4 Car Transporter as a filler until the 'Give Peace a Chance' GB starts mid Jan. Now I have the second MX5 kit, for the replacement side repeater, I can get that done and get the RFI for this done in the next few days. Martin 1

SnøMotion Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 Okay, I've taken some shots and posted the RFI! Thanks to everyone who has followed this journey, liked and commented. It really does give a morale boost when it's getting me down. Martin
CrazyCrank Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Here's a surprising and atypical car 🤔 Well done 👍 1
Mike Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Ridiculous, but also brilliant. Does the driver get a parachute in case he needs to get out? 🪂 Incidentally, I noticed that the pics were loading slowly, some worse than others. I tested some of the pics, and some were between 600kb to 1.5mb in size, which is pretty large when posting up on the internet, even in today's relatively fast broadband. You should be aiming to save your files to around 2-300kb maximum, give or take a bit. To accomplish this, you can reduce the size of your pics, as anything over the recommended 1024 x 800 or 1280 x 850 maximum we advise is wasted bandwidth and your own storage space usage. Most people view these pics on phones, tablets and 1080p screens, so huge photos of 3000 x 2200 px will have to be shrunk down by the forum software, creating unnecessary load on the server and delay for the user, as well as the extra bandwidth that is uses up on the wider internet on its way here (around 5x what's necessary in the worst case scenario). The downsides of this from a viewer's point of view is the waiting time before you can view the pics, and some people might get bored and click away, especially if they're not lucky enough to have fast broadband for whatever reason. From the server's point of view, it's wasteful of bandwidth, cache storage size, and it's wasteful of the server's processing resources due to the calculations needed to accomplish the shrinking, which means a slightly slower experience for all of us. This isn't meant as a "telling off" BTW, more of a bit of useful advice to help you as well as help us. If you can size your pics to the recommended limits, we'll be really happy, and so will the members
SnøMotion Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 Thanks, @Mike and, also, apologies for my images! It's the downside of using 2 4K screens and having 100mb upload and also I used my default Instagram export settings (because they get crushed anyway). I'll go into the RFI and replace with smaller versions. Martin 1

That's one of the reasons I still have a pair of 1080p screens, that and the fact that my old AMD rx480 probably couldn't drive two 4K screens at 60fps, and while they're still working, they're staying It also helps that I started doing "internet" things when dial-up was a thing, and started my first forum (a mountain bike one) when everyone was still raving about 512k downloads 1

Since I moved into video and motion graphics, though, having a couple of hundred gig of footage isn't unusual, so I think I'm just desensitised to file sizes, now. 1
