Just got back in from Windermere - and yeah @Pete in Lincs the rumble of 4 Merlin engines approaching was " spine chilling" 😘 The "Canon" (spelt right this time) was on rapid fire - - > I have to check through the pics and post here before too long. It was stunning to watch the old girl going up the lake, with the sun on her back and clear skies over Cumbria. 👌😁 1

5huggy Posted September 6 Author Posted September 6 (edited) Wife and I then carried on up beyond Windermere village to where "Short Sunderland's" were built, below is the "original launching ramp" at "White Cross Bay" - ( still a few tourists around! 🥴 ) and NO Sunderland's 😞 However from "Brockhole" - they flew a Fairchild F-11 Husky and I missed seeing the rarity of Waterbird is the only replica seaplane of its era anywhere in the world. Apart from the modern engine/ propeller, it faithfully recreates the detail of the original Waterbird from 1911, when it was the first seaplane to successfully fly in the UK. It was commissioned by Edward Wakefield from A. V. Roe & Co (‘Avro’) as a landplane and converted to a seaplane at Windermere, where the pilot was Herbert Stanley Adams. Here's a few poor shots of the Husky - - > > Edited September 6 by 5huggy missing pic 2
