Paul,

thanks for posting this.

Interestingly, there's a picture in their - teil 1 picture 004 of a lovely diorama that I pphotographed, too, a mash up of the Meng ( or TAKOM) overhead crane for tamk repairs and the Border 1/35 U Boat conning tower section of an U Boat (my photo isn;t as good as the one one on the IPMS Germany site).

I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of their photos as I am sure there will be better ones there of photos I took!

I can't believe how many of these I missed despite being there from Friday afternoon for the entire weekend!  My club colleagues step counters suggested we walked well over 5 miles each day of the show and I still missed so much....

@neilh

Neil, I had exactly the same thought.

I think it is inevitable that we do miss some things, simply because we look at one item on a display and don’t see another item.

In fact, it’s easy to miss an entire club stand! You needn’t ask how I know that🤣

Thanks for the heads-up on the update.

@John Tapsell, thanks for taking all of those great photos. And cudos on the win with the M-ATV. That model was an absolute gem!

Thanks Wayne. I enjoyed building the M-ATV. I have another one in the stash but I'm letting it mature a bit before tackling the model again.

I was busy photographing all the class winners so it was something of a (nice) surpise to have the M-ATV suddenly appear on the table in front of me. I picked up a win for the Ural Truck in Class 42 as well, so I was a happy bunny all round 😁

The Ural looks great too, though the M-ATV stood out to me as I wasn’t aware that there was one in 1/48. I assume it’s the Ryefield kit. Good choice to put a figure with it for perspective. Without the context, it looks much like an armoured pickup truck, but it’s actually a MUCH larger vehicle. You’ve inspired me to move the one I have one in 1/72, up in the build schedule.

On a different but related subject, this is the first show where I’ve seen the use of “Finalist” in the awards structure. I’m still a bit unclear of the distinction between that and “commended”. I’m wondering if there’s a definition or judging criteria associated with each? It might be something for us to consider here on this side of the pond.

Hi Wayne - The 'Finalist' classification is supposed to indicate a model that would otherwise have considered a winner if the gold/silver/bronze models had not been present - and of a better standard than just a Commended. I'm old-school and would equate 'Finalist' to what in my day as the competition organiser was a 'Very Highly Commended' . The VHC and Highly Commended certificates dropped out of favour over the years, leaving just the Gold/Silver/Bronze (or 1st/2nd/3rd) and the Commended certificates available.

The Finalist award appears to be a move to redress that less nuanced classification structure.

Does anyone have the links to the Airfix model world reports on line from SMW?

I saw in the Airfix mag after SMW that instead of doing a report in the magazine, they would put it on line, but can I find the report(s)?

No, I can’t. Which is why I’m asking for the links!!

Thanks in advance.
