Just completed the C1 Escort. It is technically a trans-kit but it is very comprehensive and only uses a few of the kit parts, the main ones being the chassis/floor pan and the 'glass'.

I wanted to build a model of the car my brother in law owned back in the 80's. Neither of us could remember the full reg number so I ended up using a generic plate I had in the stash.

The trans kit uses the BDA from the donor kit, obviously this wasn't a factory option (wow! If it had been?) so a resin Pinto was installed. I scratch built the rest including the brake booster and bracket, washer bottle, wiring loom, etc. Spares box provided a battery and alternator. Exhaust manifold was a modified spares box item and aluminium tube was used for the rest of the exhaust back to the centre box. Inlet manifold was created by turning the trans kit supplied exhaust manifold upside down and cutting the down pipe off. Spares box carb on top of that and an aftermarket free flow air filter topped it off. A scratch built air filter housing had been planned but it turned out to be unfeasible due to under bonnet clearance.  I replaced the trans kit rear brake discs and callipers with drum brakes made from punched card discs.

The kit goes together very well, the fit of parts such as those lovely twin light housings and the interior parts, all fit together beautifully. Only criticism is the door cards are not tall enough, this could be resolved by adding a strip to the top of the side panels?

It was most enjoyable adding some extra details, even down to the ignition keys. They are difficult to see in the finished model but I know they are there. 😆

Spot on!

That engine bay looks so nice and clean, with actual space around the engine.

I remember at the time thinking an overhead cam Ford engine really was going over the top a bit and there was no need for that kind of overcomplication.

Wow , this looks stunning. I'm lucky enough to have a close friend who owns a red Mk2 RS2000 and every detail on your build is true to his 1:1 .  Somehow don't think we'll be building kits of Ford's from now in 50 years time !!

Cool car, great finish!  I often find that yellow, whilst stunning in 1;1, can be difficult to pull off in scale. But somehow this just works....

Beautiful! The car of my dreams back in the day, but I never got to own one!

There was always the RS1800, for just a "little" extra dosh....!! :)

Cracking Escort mate!

Lovely RS2000 there, especially given it's a transkit rather than how the original manufacturer intended (although given the original manufacturer is Italeri, maybe that's not a bad thing from what I've heard). Especially well done on that yellow paint, and getting such good edges between the yellow and the black.

Never say never. I remember when I was young (we're talking early to mid 80s here), and a book on cars I had saying how cars such as the Escort (mk3), Astra (Mk1) and Mazda 323 looked so similar they could have been drawn by the same designer. I get the impression that's probably said about every generation of cars when they're new. After all, when Mk2s were new, how many people would have thought they would be so desireable in the early 21st century?

Originally it was actually released by Esci - in 1979 !! And everything bad you've heard about the kit is true!

Does show what an excellent job Chris at C1 models has done to give us an actually accurate and good looking Mk2!

Slightly late to the party here but I have to agree with all the rest, it's a little beauty.  Well executed, well finished and well detailed.  The engine bay is especially neatly done.

What a lovely build, very clean and neat, and a superb engine bay on top of that.

I have never quite been able to take this sculpted front end MkII Escort piece to my heart before, but your build in this colour is changing my mind...

If I remember correctly, you've build a few more Escorts and they all look sooo good! I lover this one as well, great color combo, great engine bay details.
