phantom82 Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Hi All, I`m Tony ,64 years young. i always wanted a model railway so 14syears ago i started building one in the loft nothing special but i enjoy it. a long time ago (teens) i did build airfix models and i even did a diorama (WW2 scene) must have used wallpaper paste etc ,no modroc in them days !!! i even built an Angel Interceptor and an Eagle Transporter!! in the late 60`s and thro the 70`s when the RAF flew over our village at tree top height ( not really) i remember Provosts,Gnats and one of my favs the Phantom we also on odd occasions had Vulcans shake the house Went to one of the airshow in Lincs in the 70`s saw an English Electric Lightening very impresive amongst other great aircraft To present day ,earlier this year went to RAF Coningsby saw the Eurofighters very very impressive and went to the BBMF had a great day and tour So i decided to reduce my railway and i had 2 self built engine sheds i was going to throw them or sell them but i decided to turn them into aircraft hangers ( no self respecting pilot would park his plane in one lol) So i need model aircraft , shaky hands ,poor eyesight mean no building airfix etc , diecast are great but a bit pricey, luckily i found Easy Models they are very good so its a small diorama in progress now so to go on and on Cheers Tony 3
flyboy2610 Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Welcome to the site! I have a model railroad as well. Need to get back to it and give it some love and attention.
5huggy Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Hello @phantom82 Tony This is "weird" in that I would BOTH wish to "like" and show "sad" at the same time. Like that you say Hi and and have a similar story to me, but I'm still un shaky (luckily) and as to poor eyesight , try getting magnifiers on an extension arm over your desk, its been my best kit yet!! Sad in that you think you cannot put model's together. I find "modelling " lowers my blood pressure to such an extent that I can thread the Wifey's needles for her now and Im so much more relaxed, or is that just an age thing ? WHY not give it a GO! - lidl have some cheapies on sale right now that you could have a crack at!
Corsairfoxfouruncle Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Hello Tony … from somewhere west of your location in Chicago USA. Im mostly a military aircraft builder, though will take on the odd piece of armor or ships now. Dennis
dad's lad Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Welcome from a fellow Notts modeller. The only thing that I remember flying over us was the Argosy's out of EMA and the Chipmunks out of RAF Newton, although in later years we've had a few interesting subjects in transit to somewhere. roy107 Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Hello Tony, from a fellow Nottinghamshire modeller!

Mr T Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 Welcome from a former resident of Nottingham and the shire currently living near Leeds. Up to the age of nine we lived near the old LMS/ MR line to Lincoln and the LNER/GNR line to Colwick. Then we lived at Mapperley with stuff from Newton, Syerston and the Rolls Royce airfield at Hucknall. Now just get a seemingly endless string of 737s turning onto finals for Leeds Bradford, plus a few odds and ends.
Watto Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 Welcome Tony, from the other end of the A52.... Watto. 🍻
