As Giorgio suggests Ced, you really are back at full steam. I've not tried these new Humbrol Acrylics, basically because my paint locker has just about every other brand and type known to modelling man, and adding another will just add to my paint "perplexia"!

I had a disaster trying to spray the old Humbrol acrylics even using their own thinners and some flow improver. Does anyone know if these are a new formula.

I have been warned off using cellulose based paint in my man cave as it is below our downstairs bedroom/bathroom but  I’m now using one of our redundant stables as a ( 7m x 3.5m ) spraying booth I’m thinking of trying MRP.

Oops thread drift again, but I didn’t start it this time.  😁

Great progress Ced. Took me a good while to see what you were pinning those ramps down with. Then noticed it was like a big Fox’s Glacier mint!  Yellow ? Do I remember right that you can base coat with pink for a better finish? Might be wrong.  Little cars look like they’re set to be a winner on those ramps too.  Full steam ahead dear boy.

Great news on the survey too. 🤗

There's an F in Tamiya? All these years and I've been spelling it wrong. I like faded yellow BTW.

Pete behaving & not sniggering!

I was given a new name badge at one of my old jobs. Said Buffton not Bufton. When I told the secretary (remember those) "There's only one 'F' in Bufton" the sales director overheard and commented "I'll remember that!".

Fame hard won :)

Me too John, but the review seems to say these are much better.

Glued the hingers on before they're hidden by the internals:

Some more painting done:

One more coat of yellow I think.

More packing today but I may get some time later.

Looking good Ced, looking good.

oddly, I’ve just seen an episode of the Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House, the celebrity being Owain Evans, the Welsh weather man who’s also noted as a drummer.

Among the items sold were Owain’s late father’s collection of Airfix kits in various lots, but in particular they sold a Bristol Superfreighter as a one off, and it sold for £50.

I was very surprised to see it go for £50, but I have to ask Ced, was it you that bought it? 😇

Hi John! :) Not me… £50 is far too rich. This kit is, like some other old Airfix, a bit of a dog.

Still not exchanged two weeks from completion. Don't panic Mr Manering!

Some progress on the model though. Some.

Finally got enough yellow on the trolley so assembled it, partly:

Did you notice the paint peeling:

53983030763_d3743f447e_z.jpg

It was pulling away from the horrid plastic (don't blame it) so I stuck it back with thinned PVA and, while that was out, coated the rest, including the figures, in the hope it might, er, stick.

Next step in the cockpit is the i/p. Readied myself for the transfer:

Where is it? Ah, old Airfix, right. It's here:

Cut out and glued:

The assembly so far:

Nice to see you back, Ced

I was told that the old Wessex "Battlefield Repair and Maintenance" course included how to replace a collapsed undercarriage leg with a skid plate made from Dexion shelving and a manhole cover! Hmm...I.think I might even have some etched manhole covers in the railway modelling box!

Thanks Crisp, John and MOK61 :)

The shiny uniforms have been matted and I'm calling these done:

53987232308_564812a274_z.jpg

53987310844_b6814b5dd3_z.jpg

Chocks away!

Next job is either greeblies inside the doors or glueing in the windows.

Where's my mojo? Neither.

The instructions seem to suggest painting the fuselage now:

53987371023_e0b441da12_z.jpg

White, Oxford Blue and Dove Grey. Have those now.

Should I prime do you reckon? I don't have the airbrush out remember.

Also, these are going to be fun:

53986347217_3270433c79_z.jpg

Can you see the numbers on the parts tree?

No?

Me neither.

I've zoomed in on that photo and I think:

- The three on the right of the left hand bit are smaller. I can see the smaller holes in the fuselage

- The two on the left of the right bit have chopped edges. I guess these go over the hinge locator and

- The rest are the same.

Easy. Not.

The “collapsed oleo” evolution was a standard Admiral’s inspection game.  There was a sandpit type thingy near the old Fire Section at Culdrose, which they used to fill with inflatable mattress thingies (not actual mattresses; they just looked like bigger versions), so that the cab wouldn’t roll on its side if things went wrong.  Then you had to sit in a very low hover for what felt like hours (probs really about 40 mins) while the Grubbers did their thing underneath the aircraft (in a place where you couldn’t see them from inside the aircraft) & changed the oleo.

Good game and maximum hassle (which is why Admirals’ staff loved it)

Right.

No airbrush would mean no primer to me simply make sure the plastic is clean.

Then your very, awesomely best paint brush.

Rest...

Hmmmm. If the paints coming away on that lovely little trolly thingy I’d consider priming. You could  use rattle cans like wot I do. 😀

or some thinned Mr Surfacer. Looking good however. I’ve never seen a cut out decal before. How novel. 😳. Does the trick mind. 🙌

@The Spadgent the IP is paper. Printed on the instructions. It was fairly common in the olden days.

Greg made the Superfeighter not long ago.......there maybe something in there to give you thought

It makes me "think" Greg sets a very high bar for his builds.  Take as an example: create a buck for the entire upper deck, vac-form a clear part, and carefully cut/integrate it into the rest.  That's not for everyone, and it may have the effect of discouraging others with more modest skills.  The results, I admit, are amazing.

Loving having you back with us Ced and I am hugely enjoying following this project. I do Have one slight reservation though; i understand that you are building this diorama whilst you are staying with your daughter? Isn't she going to be slightly miffed when you try to hang it from her ceiling? Just concerned about your safety you understand.

Thanks Johnny. Too cold for rattle cans (brrrr) but the glue worked. Stynylrez (oooh, I can still type that quickly) sticks well but I may not need it.

Of course you're right Martian. Plus the fact that the ceilings in their cottage are low and I'll keep banging my head on it. Maybe hanging a diorama isn't a good idea :D

So, movers will be packing on Wednesday IF we've exchanged. Stressful? Indeed. Still due to complete a week today so keep you fingers crossed for me and watch this space.

This lot needs to be added…

53998744449_96cdb8011c_z.jpg

…to the stuff I'm taking to the daughters:

53998658303_227dcc3095_z.jpg

I'm going to offer the box of old 'phones and a couple of Apple Newtons (remember those?) to the local Museum. Hopefully they'll find a good home.

The rest of the 'kept' models are ready to go into storage:

53997529147_df44fc89e5_z.jpg

Opening those in the new house will be like Christmas.

Once it's built.

Hopefully 'spring'.

There will now be a host interlude while the stress continues.

Good luck with the move, Ced. As stressful as it is, I'm sure the exchange will happen. It's also possible to exchange and complete in the same day, and occasionally, it's a requirement. I had that when I sold my house as our buyers were keeping their existing house, but converting the mortgage on it to buy to let. My parents also had it with their recent move because they had some equity release on the old property to transfer to the new one.

Good luck also on the move Ced, at least you’re not moving countries!

On second thoughts, moving countries forced us to be more realistic about some of the things we needed to keep after 25 years in the same house. We still had a couple of unpacked boxes in the barn 5 years after moving, but one of my boxes of unbuilt kits ( including 2 Echelon 1/32 Hunters and a Lightning ) got left behind and by the time we realised it, the new owner had thrown them away. ☹️
