Airfix Jaguar...

At Sea

If Airfix does release a new Jag, the Kitty Hawk kit that’s been taking up space on the Shelf of Doom will hit the bin hard enough to be heard across the Atlantic in the Airfix corporate offices.

The simultaneous binning of 87.23% of all the Kitty Hawk Jaguar kits ever sold being binned should be detected from space.

one thing I would really like to see is the ability to build one of the newer versions of the IAF’s Jaguars

The Indian Jags are a rabbit hole I'm likely to disappear down one day if a new kit materialises. I'm particularly curious about the maritime strike variant - there's little chance of that being kitted, but I'll be praying to the aftermarket gods.

wouldn't mind Airfix doing a few Jaguar D-Types in 1/24 though....

There were Jaguar A, B, E, M and S Types, but no D 😁

Would go down well with their Harrier in 1/24, though 😉

This could throw the earth off its axis, so careful lads!

See!?!

That's how criminally ignored they are!

Even won Le Mans three times innit!

But the Adour is so slowly reacting in the corners... but admittedly great on the straight!

Didn't Aurora do a racing D? Only 60 years ago? I have their E (four, not five wheels), and it looks pretty nice in the box.

Another point in favour of Airfix releasing the Jaguar, Airfix clearly like releasing subjects that can have a couple of boxing from multiple markings/variants, they've done this so far with the; Hunter, Vampire, Spitfire XIV/XVIII, Buccaneer, Sea Fury, Meteor and Tiger Moth.

The Jaguar has plenty of marking options!

Wether or not all the variants can be made from a single boxing is another matter.

Aside from the new nose, cockpit and canopy, what is required to convert a single-seat Jag into a two-seater? Could that also be a potential offering?

I built a couple.
That kit certainly does sort the men from the boys.

OK, I'm convinced, put me down for a couple.

I'm confused. Is this really happening? A new tool 1/48 Jaguar kit from Airfix? Could that be why Heller got one more release out of their/Airfix's old tooling earlier this year? Would they have had a heads up?

And is that box art a leak or just two minutes work in Paint?

Pure speculation at this point, based on one random photo Arifix posted on their social page of youtube.

This thread doesnt technically follow the rules of this forum because its pure guess.

A nice guess, and one I would like if its true, but thats all it is.

Think it follows the requirements of the thread exactly if you look at the opener for the rumourmonger.

Think it's no more than a "wisp of speculation ".

When you think about it, this thread seems to fit the subject Rumourmonger more than 99% percent of the other threads in here which are actually news rather then rumour.

Oh right, I stand corrected then.
I thought it was for things which we know are happening, that seems to be what all the other threads are about.

When they do announce a new tool Jaguar I suppose it will tag onto this thread then rather than a thread of its own? So this thread will be worth following on that basis?

As for me, I've never built the kit, but I've seen the plastic etc. It's quite expensive for what you get and don't get. You get only the French versions, and a fairly misshapen canopy and windshield in one piece. You don't get open air brakes, which were always open on the ground. Hasegawa and Italeri offer at least the same quality (I'd argue better) for a better price.

Jay

The Hobby Boss kit is miles ahead of the Hase and Italeri kits in terms of surface detail, it is absolutely phenomenal. I assume fit is probably decent too, the Italeri in particular was very, very poor in this regard. Unfortunately everything else you said is true, and the lack of open air brakes as well as closed canopy is a big downer, as the lack of any RAF versions.

On the plus side, if you manage to get it for cheap, you have a fabulous French AF weapons set. 👌

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to correct anyone, I was just noticing that this merely being a rumour resulting from Airfix’s recent photo kind of made it a more appropriate thread in this section. But you are right; despite the title, this is largely a news section rather than simple rumour. Sorry for the thread drift.

There are some solid reasons for a Jaguar being a reasonable possibility, from Airfix specifically;

  • It's a Classic British aircraft (Airfix almost exclusively stick to classic British aircraft).
  • There is little/no competition in the UK market (the Kitty Hawk kit is nearly impossible to get hold of and the Heller kit is.... well, you fill in the rest) - Airfix would have the vast majority of the market if they release a Jaguar in 48th.
  • It comes in loads of markings (Airfix tend to kit aircraft that have re-release potential, in a variety of different markings, including export options)
  • It perfectly fits into their range of 1/48 British cold war jets (Meteor, Vampire, Sabre (yes I know it isn't British) Javelin, Hunter, Buccaneer)
  • There is a lot of interest in it (just look at how much interest this thread has generated)! Airfix seem to know what us modellers want to be released and they kit it - As a side note, Airfix may be monitoring my thoughts as, every time I spend too much time/money/effort trying to get hold of that kit I really want, they release a new tool - see Chipmunk, Sea King, Gannet, Anson.

You'll also notice I've assumed that, if Airfix were to release a Jaguar, it'll be in 1/48. There's good reason for my assumption, it's fairly obvious that Airfix are switching to 1/48 scale for their latest and greatest kits. Yes, I know they have more 1/72 kits than 1/48, but I'm fairly certain these items are used to attract younger people (or those new to the hobby) into modelling, these are the "support acts" as it were to their 1/48 "headliners".

I hope this happens and if it does then please be in 1/48. With droopable flaps and slats, and at least one markings option for wraparound green/grey camo.

Ideally the option to build a two seater as well. Got to be honest I’d probably buy at least four. One for each of the Coltishall squadrons and a Lossiemouth OCU two seater 🤞

I wouldnt disagree with any of that.
But as of yet they havent announced it.

There was no teaser for the Sea King is all I think.

I hope there is one. I would like it. But until they announce it as a future kit its just an idea.

Probably not yet. I suspect it won't be the coming this year ( I think they will not give such an obvious hint to the surprise release ), probably going to be a release for next year.
