Dunc2610
I though I'd go to town on the B-17 and have got both the cockpit and nose interior kit from Eduard to go with the main kits. My question is, the instructions from Eduard are quite clear as to how it goes together, but what they don't tell you is what colour things should be. On both kits there is a 'coloured' fret and a plain fret. Where the etch isn't coloured should the items just be whatever the interior colour is? I've attached some examples for reference:
Mike
We've just posted a review of the kit, which you can see 'ere: Generally speaking, Eduard will provide Gunze Sangyo codes for new assemblies that were omitted from the kit, but might not give you codes for replacement assemblies unless they different greatly from the kit parts in terms of detail and scope. Check your instructions, and use those as cues. There are also a ton of walk arounds of interiors of B-17s knocking about on t'internet, and those can be handy when you can't find any info, but bear in mind that restored airframes might not be 100% accurate, as they've been through many changes and re-paints during the intervening years Not every restorer knows exactly what they're doing. Sometimes it's just their best guess in the absence of proof. We've also got a Walk Around, which has some interior pics:

I think I'll need to find some interior pics, and have a good look at the walkaround you've posted.
Dunc2610
This is a resto of the Memphis Belle (a B-17F also) as its the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force I'm hoping this is pretty accurate?
tomprobert
The Memphis Belle is currently the most comprehensive and accurate restoration of a B-17 there is. Eduard pre-painted interior sets use US Interior Green but this was never, at any time during B-17 production, used - instead Dark Dull (or Bronze Green) was used. However, this was mainly used on the exposed metal on the flight deck, along with some other structural fixtures and fittings in the nose - see Memphis Belle vid linked by @Dunc2610 above. Interior skins, flight deck aside, would be in natural aluminium which is true for the whole interior. On some early batch F-models, the bomb bays were neutral gray. All other interior areas were unpainted. I’ve a keen interest in the B-17 and have spent many, many years researching it and analysing literally thousands of pictures. If there’s anything specific you need, do ask! Tom 1 2

Based on the image attached from the Bloody hundredth instructions they appear to have the demarkation correct yes?
tomprobert
@Dunc2610 yes - although the radio room would have been aluminium. Early batch F models had an olive green sound-deadening material on the radio room sidewalls but this was quickly removed on the production lines as well as in service aircraft. The area shown for the flight deck is correct - the lower side walls of the cockpit (the part in the kit with the molded on oxygen tanks) would have been olive green as this had a fabric covering. 1

I'm just looking at the AK interactive Xtreme metal colours and wondering which one is the best match for the inside, there's matte aluminium, aluminium and dark aluminium. Which would you opt for? Which would you opt for? I’ve not used the AK range myself so can’t really give a definitive answer, but aluminium oxidises quite quickly when exposed to the elements so nothing too shiny - perhaps the matte aluminium? Those with some experience of the range may be able to advise better…
